Sounds like the kind of life an "inmate " from PYOI has since he gets to go to work to earn money yet were he works bodies are being layed off. Totally screwed up or what. Sounds like a full board getaway for a few days to me esp if its the weekend and they get in trouble then.

If it warrants a custodial sentence then it can't be very minor can it. Geeeeeeee's even if you mug an old lady in the street these days you can bet your life you won't get a custodial sentence, and I wouldn't say that crime is a MINOR offence.

Jail a driver that kills some one for 3 years but a bank manager that stole through fraud from the bank he worked atfor 10 years and state that it was a serious crime. This guy didnt even really profit from it. That is the sum of the law slinks. :(

Well if you weren’t comparing the situation of these ex-servicemen with criminals being locked away serving an intermittent sentence, while their mates are out enjoying themselves ……. please tell me what the hell was its point?

There are no other people in society that are more selfish than criminals. They think only of their own needs. So let’s help them out even more.

For the record jambutty I have never broken the law in any form that would constitute me having to serve a prison sentence. Do you know why? ……. It’s because I fear prison and the repercussions it would have on those around me.

Well, that driving sentence, I got conned into pleading guilty of, the not stopping at the scene of an accident, the one I thought up untill recently, over a year after court, was just not giving my details, was a prisonable offence. Just as well Your tules don't apply or I'd be locked away for allegedly denting a door on a ten yr old rusty escort. Its already cost me us over 3000 pound, plus the court costs, plus police costs, insurance company costs, solicitor costs. then more costs if I went to prison.

If we sent everybody to prison, for every crime they commited, we'd never have the space or money to build anything else.

Prison should be for criminals. Yes build more prisons, but put the real ciminals in them. Your all under the impression that prison is the only real punishment, when in reality it isn't. Prison is meant to lock people away from society, and deprive them, as a punishment, but if you can punish them in other ways AND they're not a danger to society, why put them in prison at our cost. For each place took by a petty criminal, thats one less space for a serious criminal.

The tagging system works, so do fines, points on licences, paying back what was stolen, and this will work for the right crimes.

A burglar, for one house would never get a custodial sentence, and wouldn't even have to pay you back. He'd probably get a suspended sentence.
What should happen is that he should be tagged, have to pay you back, and compensation.
This takes some of his freedom away, without costing the taxpayer, also keeps him inside during the time he's most likely to re offend, you get your money or costs back, plus compensation.

Another daft thing in this country is the criminal injury compensation scheme. A criminal does an injury to someone, then either gets locked away or let free, and money out of the pot gets paid to the victim. Thats taxpayers money, notthe criminals earned money.

So in a way, you think your punishing them by sending them to prison, and they just get to shirk their responsibilities, sit their watching sky tv, playing pool, and playstation at our expense. Some punishment.

The friend, that was released on tag had already done 5 months in a high security and then open prison jambutty, and has had to pay all the money back. She's got at least six months on the tag.
The only reason she got this punishment for stealing money, is because the judge had found all the others that day not guilty or had given non custodial sentences. It's just luck it seems in the british justice system, not what crime you've commited.

It seems a better life than some hard working family can afford. All this washing and ironing done 3 meals a day and help on release to get a job and be a "good citizen" etc etc etc. Why do we bother to work if the penal system is likely to keep yopu in comfort. :(

I can understand that yes it seems a cushy number in prison. BUT they are away from all the people they know, wife, kids, friends ect... and that really hits you when you are in prison and reminds you that if you get sent down again, you will be without all this again.

But with this STUPID intermitten sentence, the longest you are going to do without this is A WEEKEND, a FULL WEEKEND....oh it must break the poor sod's hearts to be without WIFE, KIDS ect..... for a FULL WEEKEND!!

Hey spuggie!! I have never been tempted to break the law, because prison terrifies me, being away from my family for that long would kill me!! not to mention the BIG BUTCH dykes in them places!!!!!!:D

But if it means that I only have to go there at weekends!! then maybe I could do a few robberies.......get some nice things from other people's money.....I would only have to go on holiday for a weekend!! sounds a good deal to me mate.:rolleyes:

Does this carry on me that a husband and wife crime team who get this would be able to have state funded dirty weekends twice a month. :eek:

I freely admit that I'm one of those people who whinges about the scandal of the criminal justice system in this country and then goes down the pub. But what CAN we do about it? All three major parties support the softly, softly approach to criminals, so we have no one to represent our opinions. You may have noticed that all those who are party members have studiously avoided this thread, just as they do all threads on this subject. This is because either they agree that we should get tough with criminals but daren't state their views for fear of invoking the wrath of their party bosses. Or they actually agree with their party's soft line on criminals but don't want to say so. Either way, we have no chance of getting a sensible criminal justice system in this country. :mad:

Anyway, I'm off down the pub...
