It turns out that half the time women are talking to no one other than themselves. I should have guessed; even when they are talking to someone, its invariably drivel.

Anyway, this is a serious study by the LSE reported in the Observer/Guardian, so don't blame me; I'm only concerned with facts.

I got a mobile because I drove long distances alone. There's no point in being with the AA if it's pitch dark and you've no idea where the nearest phone is. I don't even chat on the landline from choice, so there's little chance of my prattling on my mobile. I use it if I'm delayed and need to let someone know. That's about it. And don't get me started on the number of men I have heard on mobiles saying "Hi, it's me, I'm on the bus/train ...." and then blethering on about all those vitally important things like football etc.
