What a lovely day today...... a scorcher. It has been way too hot today for me to sit outside for too long but I have managed to wash everything that is made of cloth. Therefore all curtains, bedding and towels have been done...:D

If the lolly sticks are wooden magilly don’t forget to soak them overnight otherwise they will just float to the top before the liquid has a chance to freeze.

Just a little diversion, but not worth putting up a new thread.

We have had the nostalgia about the pieces of tar that used to be in the road, and how, as kids, used to pop them on a hot day as they bubbled, and then got in trouble if got on yer Sunday best, however, talked about this at work today.

Just wondered if anybody knows how they got there, didn't seem to serve any purpose and dotted about with no pattern. Were they dropped from a tarring machine, etc. Any road builders out there that would know the answer ? Don't question these things when you are a kid, do you ?

I popped some in my back yard yesterday.

Wasn't it used between the cobbles?

Yes, Garinda, but only dotted here and there, did they rise up from the depths, or spread on surface to cover some gaps,??

Thanks jambutty for the advice regarding the lolly sticks. In those days the simple things really did make us happy.

Re: Glorious, glorious summer.

The tar was originally poured whilst in a molten state in between the stones as the cobbles were set and as the tar cooled, dust gathered on top of the tar then the tar and was not seen until hot days when it bubbled to the top again. I know this because a mate of my Dad's used to work on Accy highways department and he showed me how they did when I was a kid in the 60s.

I used to love popping them too, Katex..........I was also fascinated with the rainbows in the puddles, made by oil or petrol I reckon but I didn't know that then.

I suppose we made our own summer fun.

Well, son if you must play with the tar whilst sunbathing in the nuddy at the same time, better be careful where the bubble pops :D

Better get on with some work, gonna get sacked at this rate, do you think will be able to claim compensation from Accyweb ? :)

Enjoy your day people not working, wish I could join you. :(
