Oh Geee what an atttitude they have, someone get me a box & bury me - pooreer people are the most priced out, no dental health, nhs up the swanny, education standards are down, lack of facilities & the crims getting away with it.....not that i can afford to go abroad but many do & this increase will effect a huge majority not that holidaying in Britain is a cheaper alternative :(

Last night I took a look at the prices for a flight to New York and was in shock when the split came up and showed that the tax part was geater than the actual cost. It is criminal!!! Some did come in with the tax lower but only just so stuck in this example as it is not a web booking only offer.

It seems to me to be a 'back-door' way of driving the start-up airlines out of business (anyone remember Freddie Laker and Skytrain) Since Ryanair and other similar airlines began offering scheduled flights at a reasonable prices and still show a profit the major national carriers have had to cut their prices to match the competition on similar routes , There is nothing more that BA, AirFrance/KLM and Lufthansa would like to see than the end of these cheap flights ,then the prices go up again, you can be sure that the major airlines carry more lobbying weight in Brusels and London than a ****ant sized start-up airline.

I didn't see the story, as I spent the last couple of days hallucinating, but that is a very valid point. It's the opposition that came up with the proposal, not the current British government.

Remember that, come the next General Election. The Tories will always be Tories, no matter how they rebrand themselves. Their very ethos is to keep the little people down, so the few can carry on living off the fat of the land.
