Tragic House Fire In Accrington

Five members of the same family have died in a house fire in Lancashire.
The bodies of a woman and four children, aged between one and 14 years old, were found by firefighters at a house in Accrington in the early hours.
A man was rescued from the house in Tremellen Street at about 0200 GMT and was taken to hospital suffering from serious burns.
The house has been sealed off and a police investigation is under way into the cause of the blaze.
The name of the dead family has not been released until next of kin have been informed.

I just heard it on the radio. My immediate thought was that it could have been caused by Hallowe'en pumpkin candles. (We had candles here last night and a pumpkin in the window.) Tragic as an accident but absolutely shocking and unbelievably horrible if this was done deliberately. :(

Club devastated at sad loss

Caneze Riaz
Accrington Stanley Football Club were devastated to hear of the sad loss of Caneze Riaz and her four daughters in a house fire in the town this morning. Caneze was the Chairman of the newly formed Accrington Stanley Diversity Forum set up to promote links with various communities in the area, and played a key role in the establishment of the group. We are confident that the energy and enthusiasm that she put into starting the project will see the activities continue for a long time to come, and the thoughts of us all are with her family and friends at this sad time.

Indeed, we should at this stage refrain from making further comments other than messages of sympathy. Any theories that people may have should not really be posted on here but kept privately and if you have any evidence relating to this incident you should report directly to the police. Anything else on here may only serve to lead to wasting police time in their enquiries and in complicating the due legal process.

While we can all feel remorse and sympathy for the tragic deaths of this poor family please let us not forget the son who has been left behind and how the media are portraying that since the father died this morning that there maybe a likelyhood of murder here .
I am sorry if I sound callous here but if there is any truth in this then a lovely woman and her children have been murdered ,but for whatever reason ,then that cannot ever be justified .There is a child who is left behind who has to try and piece together his life and ask questions . why ,why and why .. Please forgive me if i sound like i am jumping ahead ,but im sure that that all these questions are going to be up for disscussion fairly soon

The first fire crew on the scene was the crew we are due to lose if the Fire Service get thier way. They were there within four minutes despite being retained. The second crew came from Great Harwood, who are also due to lose a crew. This is a tragic incident but I am worried it could happen again if we do in fact lose all this fire cover.

This is something Greg Pope mentioned recently and I think it's valid to bring up the subject with him and have him bring it up at Westminster. This family could not be saved but how many others will be put at risk by losing these crews?

Yes Less that's it.

I emailed Greg earlier and mentioned the involvement in the Tremellen St fire of the crews we are in danger of losing. The fact that lives were not saved on this occasion is no reflection on the crews involved but if we lose them then we also are in danger of losing lives they might have been able to save.

Just my opinion but I felt it was worth sharing.

Are you sure of this fact? I raised the point with Greg Pope, as I sincerely hope we don't lose these crws but fear we probably will, and he seems to think that the first crew to arrive was a full time crew and got there in 3 minutes.

Not true, the first two crews in attendance were the wholetime crews from Accrington in three minutes, the retained crews from accrington and harwood were the third and forth crews in attendance, nether the less these engines are under threat and it is up to you the public to write to your MP to voice your concern.

I emailed Greg Pope (our MP) and had a reply from him in which he said it wasn't the retained crew which is why I queried the post here.

He has recently addressed the problem in the HoC and says it wouldn't be appropriate to use this tragedy to make a further point - which I can understand.

I can also understand that using this tragedy to make a point would not be appropriate but which tragedies should we use???

It is not appropriate to cut life saving services and expect that the remaining services would cope. These are people's lives, our lives..... Are we not worth the best possible services??? I know that the best is not always the biggest but I'm sick and tired of being told that we have to downsize, reorganise, work smarter, work harder and achieve more...

How many more tragedies does there have to be before this government realises that changes to essential services are not always for the best, are not always thoroughly evaluated and are rarely cost effective..

Although it is inappropriate to use tragic incidents to demonstrate a service, sometimes it is very necessary in order to prove a point.

I didn't go to the funeral. Emotionally I would have struggled but also I didn't want to add to the numbers. I'm going up with some other women tomorrow and we're doing our own private goodbye.
