It is a little bit early. They might be trying to be the first in the area. I once sent all my Christmas card out on the 1st Oct.

Blooming heck thats quick & very over keen its not even bommy night yet, just waiting for the saddo's round here to start they started early last year:eek:

Tealeaf 03-11-2006 12:30

Wow! It looks absolutely fabulous! That is the best Antony Gormley sculpture I've seen in ages...much better than those ones on the beach at Crosby. And this one's in Church, of all places!

Anyway, I have no doubt Gayle has something to do with this...but It is certainly far better than the panopticon. I do hope, however, that someone can persuade the inhabitants of that house in the background to get rid of that mess in their front window.

Here is a good money-saving tip. If anyone on here wants to get pregnant, try and do so on the 25th March; the chances are it will be born on Christmas day and that means you only have to buy one set of pressy's each year for the little brat.

Oh so not true!!! My eldest was born on xmas day (although he was prem and not due till feb!!) and has march 1st the day of his christening which is called "party day". He gets his pressie's and when he was younger his party then. At christmas he just gets birthday cards and a cake!!! :)

Im dreading putting up the tree again .... its a competition between my 4 cats who is the first one to the top. I cant put chocolate balls on the tree as one of my cats loves it and pinches it from the tree.:p

There's nothing to dread.....just stick razor blades in some of the branches. Your cats will soon learn their lesson and won't then be going anywhere near the tree.

Saw the first advert on telly, mastercard, and also the stores are all filling there shelves with Christmas stuff. Over here they start to decorate after thanksgiving which is the last thursday in november, we will have our usual discussion about how soon it is but I will lose :) and have to sit through the whole of december with them. Have you started the outside decorations yet or is it just an american thing?

So the great Crimbo Decorations race is on then!! What a waste of effort having them up befor 1st December a they might get damaged or worse if outside technically redistributed for a better use.

Anyone put one in their car yet???

jambutty 04-11-2006 09:11

Re: Just Nearly Crashed The Car....Xmas Tree

There was a time not all that long ago when people didn’t “trim up” or decorate in the modern vernacular, until the kids had gone to bed on Xmas Eve. The parents would put the tree up, add all the trimmings and spread the presents under the tree.

The living room and front room in some cases got trimmed up and received Xmas cards were strung along the walls.

It was often well past midnight before they stumbled into bed but it was worth the effort to see the kids faces as they came down on Xmas morning.

Last year I saw a few cars decorated – on the inside. Although some people wrapped silver tinsel around the aerial – that’s if they still had one.

Slightly off topic – a message to the thieving Neanderthal torag who nicked my car aerial from outside my flat in broad daylight the other day – A VERY UNHAPPY XMAS!!!! I hope that you poked your eye out when you put it on your own car.

But this decorating for Xmas lark has got well out of hand today.

Katex you should live with Ginger then. Every year is the same......More lights outside than bloody blackpool Illuminations ( although ours do work)......

Cars drive past and stop outside staring....gets bloody annoying, but he is a big kid and insists on doing the house up like a grotto every year.

A little girl that lives near us won't go to bed at night until her mum has put her, her little dressing gown on and brings her for a look at the lights, then she will go to bed........:D bet that mum curses Ginger every year lol.

Re: Just Nearly Crashed The Car....Xmas Tree

I'm one of the brigade that liked to trim everything up on Christmas Eve and would happily do that.

I say, 'liked', that doesn't happen now. A few years ago, when Maddie was about 2ish, I mentioned to my Mother In Law that my plan was to do it all on Christmas Eve and to say that she was horrified was an understatement. She immediately went to town bought the biggest tree she could find, twice as many decorations as her house could stand and had Maddie help putting up decorations at hers. So, of course, Maddie prefered her house to ours.

Each year I try to resist the pressure to trim up for as long as possible but usually cave in around about the second week in December.

I agree with you there Gayle, usually couple of weeks before xmas I trim up. I don't understand how people who trim up so early manage to keep everything clean as I just find decs are major dust traps!!!

Thats boring silvermain! Even when my mum said it wasnt worth it putting the tree up because neither of us would be here on Christmas Day i went out and bought a new one that was easier to put up and put it up. She used to say i was a big kid at heart! Anyway this year i dont know when i'll put it up. Its only a little 3ft or 4ft cant remember which! At the minute i'm busy making xmas decorations for our local credit union to sell to raise money for them. Also making some for the kids at my nieces school for them to paint up.

OH don't you start Mick :p Ginger is here ( well somewhere under a mound of lights in my livingroom). He is starting putting them up today. We have just had a tiff because he says when they are all up ( which will take him 3 days) he is turning them on!!! I said ' no you're not' he said ' well you are working for the next 3 days, you won't know ' grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr He saw a 12ft inflatable santa in QS last night. We had a argument about that. He said ' I'm going to buy that and put it on the roof ' ME ' NO YOU ARE NOT ' every bloody year it's the same.

Please if someone could adopt me just for christmas........I would be greatful :D

I seriously can't move. I am sat here in a corner typing this with sun glasses on, the light in this room is pathetic.

I am NOT exaggerating...........if none of you believe me, just take a look up here after the 1st December
