Hey if u want a singing tree, start with having a tree in the 1st place [a real one not metal] then put a few windchimes on it - hey presto a singing tree  well a nicer racket than that thing in Burnley.

Accrington has got one. The official opening will be held sometime in July.

It's to be called the Warm Summer of Earth:

Don't appear to be able to open your latest effort Neal .. just the egg timer for yonks

Do I like it ?? Mmmmm .... sort of ... put me off when Doug mentioned a foot sticking out of the ground .. can't get this image out of my head now.
Agree with some of you others, best one up to yet ... except I do like the Angel of the North and the Wicker Man.

Why don't they do something that depicts the area though, or am I missing summat ? and why not an image that is more pleasing to most people ;whoever decided on it, must have know would bring criticism and gibes. Ok, lots of people will go up there (wherever Crown point is) out of curiosity just the once ... bet it's not long before Willow hot foots it .. she won't be able to resist .. :D

As for the atom, don't know how the celebrities that were at the 'unveiling' kept there faces straight, don't you just know is going to start smelling a little strongly as no public toilets nearby  I see it's made of copper !! just hope thief proof.

Hummph, as long as we are chained to the kitchen sink for only him to view (you will have to find a previous post to understand this one  )

In San Diego they had (temporary exhibition) a line of trees made from metal lining the harbour, all different types.. I thought these were beautiful and pleasing to the eye... these would have made a lovely orchard on Crown Point and children would have found them more interesting.

This was one of them ... Ok. you all going to have a go now :- This one was named the Puzzle Tree.

Yeh, madmal was just going to post on this point meself .. surely, would need planning permission to decide whether it 'fits in with the environment and surroundings' and for the good of the community. As it so obviously doesn't .. generates a question.

So obvious to who though ? It's all a matter of personal taste. I'm pretty sure there are lots of buildings/objects in every town that some people don't like the look of but others do.

I don't see how it can do any harm to the community. Not unless someone uses the pipes to lauch a few scud missiles at the town :D

Re: Singing Ringing Tree, Burnley

OK .. just rung Planner son and asked why a council would pass such a construction.. the answer was, they would consider:-

Cultural Enhancement.
Creating an identity, not just for Burnley, but for the whole of the North West (NWDA).
Publicity to bring in the visitors. (even bad publicity is good)

Still a blot on the landscape though 'innit ?

Lancsdave are you getting defensive of this pile of pipes?

I would like to see some photos of it from the valley floor, I might pop over mid week to have a look but I’ll have to find something else to make the journey worth it.

I reserve judgement on the pipes. I suspect you have to go and see them and their surroundings in person to get any real aspect.
