Re: evening telegraph news story
The people who included that in a tribute to him at his funeral obviously didn't think they were painting him in a bad light and I'm sure they never intended to do so.

Re: evening telegraph news story
I can't really see the problem after all most youngsters will experiment with cigarettes at some point! I would be more offended and worried if it mentioned having a drink or drugs: a he would of been underage and b: drugs or illegal and both having a much more serious effect on youngsters. At the age of 16 he would of still been younger enough to kick the habit! I think I would much rther have a teenager who experminted with cigarettes than drink or drugs.

Re: evening telegraph news story
The family obviously gave details about him to the press, so if that smoking was part of him enjoying what he had of such a short life, fair enough.

Re: evening telegraph news story
I was in that part of Blackburn at the time of his funeral. There were a load of kids dressed up in rovers shirts walking in front of the hearse. The traffic was really backed up due to this.
What a tribute to him as there were crowds of people round there, he was obviously very much loved and I'm sure will be terribly missed |
Re: evening telegraph news story
I think it's great when someones life is celebrated, instead of mourned.
None of us are 'perfect', and frankly who would want to be. |
Re: evening telegraph news story
I didn't find it offensive or in bad taste. He was just a youngster who enjoyed his short life.

Re: evening telegraph news story
The comment was made by the priest. I was there at the funeral, and it was not said in nasty way at all. He was just summing up Chris.
Chris was a lovely lad, and he will be sadly missed. He had a good turn out, I have never seen so many people at a funeral before, and the fact that so many had turned up in Rovers shirts was a tribute to him. |
Re: evening telegraph news story
I don’t understand what could be offensive about this tragic story. This young man lived a short life and had preferences that came from his right to express his freedom. It is nobody’s business what he enjoyed but his. God Bless him.

Re: evening telegraph news story
Sorry steeljack, but smoking had no hand in this young mans early death, some form of cancer 'I believe'. To say that smoking is the cause of a lifes ills is in my opinion rubbish, I do not smoke! I recently had a lung cancer removed along with part of a lung, I have also had Colon cancer twice in fifteen years and I dont blow smoke out of my backside either, I can understand the fear that has been instilled in us by the anti brigade and lt may be the cause of some ailments, but not the only one.

Re: evening telegraph news story
my original quibble with the story was , , I thought the tone of the report made the lad sound like a "chav" and was unnessecary at such a sad time for his family , but I bow to popular opinion
