Re: Gay Parade For Accy

Atlanta has a huge Gay Pride Parade every year. Loads of fun. Sir Elton has a fashionable pad in town and loves it here. I'm not sure Accy could muster the numbers, though.

I think he should worry about getting his cataracts done, before he starts organising any festival.:D

It will make a change from the BROWN POUND lot having their parades and marches.

Probably not Alex.

One hairdresser with a Rainbow flag, doth not a festival make.

If he was serious, he'd be better trying to organise a float for Accrington Carnival. Even the most successful ones in the UK lose money.

The only people that make money out of carnivals are the pick pockets and muggers.

I thought that was a really bad ad for tinted contacts - but this isn't supposed to be Trinny and Suzannah ;)

I think the carnival float idea is a good one Rindy!
It would be great to attract a nightlife back into this town it used to be hard to beat it but I dont think the parade will do that.

It would be good if some money could be ploughed into Cross Street though. (Not necessarily tax payers money.) There's great potential down there. Maybe his little flag will inspire other people.

In the past I've been on political marches, but have never felt the need to parade down the street, pigeon holing myself into any particular group.

Happily this government, and our MP, have helped right a lot of the legal and social inequalities that homosexuals and lesbians faced in the past.

I'm fine if people want to celebrate with a carnival, but the real reason these events were started for in the early '70s, is no longer relevant.

Time to leave the gheto mentality behind, and join the rest of society in just getting along, and living life.

As you all know, I like a good minority cause, so I contacted this chap and offered my assistance to secure some lottery funding. I don't think I've ever been rejected in quite the same way. I don't know whether it was my face or what that he didn't like but I was literally escorted out of his shop.

I was only trying to help, that'll teach me! :D

It was good of you to offer him assistance. I don't know him, but I suspect the idea for an Accy Mardi Gras was just a way for him to get publicity for his business, and he had no intention of actually making it happen.

Amongst other things, my godfather own's the UK's largest gay lifestyle chain of stores, he's also involved in running the festivals in London, Manchester and Brighton. Ticketed or free, they always lose money, even when well attended. which those three are.

Gayle, I hope being discriminated against won't put you off offering your funding skills to other, more serious, people.:D
