What happen to good old manner???

At work I see lots pf people. some very kind while others are just plain rude. As children we were told to talk with some respect. i'm not talking about having to saying "please" & "thank you" after every sentence. for example a woman comes in effing and blinding then starts clicking her fingers at me and says 'oi oi', i dont expect her to know my name automaticaly but i do have a name badge. everytime she addressed me she'd say 'oi'.
anyway MOST people i see are good decent people.

Just needed to get that off my chest.

It costs nobody anything to show good manners,i just think some people have been brought up more ignorant than others.Your tring to provide a service to folk, proberbly working unsociable hours, maybe for a not-so good wages, the least your customers could do is show some respect.Iknow when i do an occasional shopping trip i do try to be at least polite to the person who'es serving/helping me.

Oh that makes my blood boil... We used to go on a lot of cruise ships,,and one time we were put on this table with some toffee nosed couple from London ,he was something to do with the goverment, and he always snapped his fingers at the waiters,They thought they were a cut above everyone else ,but soon realised it diddent wash with the other holiday makers,
Those waiters and all the staff were the nicest people you could wish to meet .I asked our waiter why he just took it so nicely and he told me it was more than his job was worth to say anything back..Even at the black and white ball the woman had to wear blue,,so people took notice of her..

I always say please and thank you - mum would have cracked me one if i didnt!!! Get on the bus and say accrington please and when im getting off i say thanks. But i do notice that some older than me dont say please and thank you when they are getting on/off the bus. I went down accy last week and there was a bunch of kids getting off before me and every single one of them said thank you. There was an older gentleman getting off after me and he didnt say thanks.

Its unfortunate that today we dont have people who see the importance of manners. Im a youngish guy and see some guys my age not care about anyone or anything and it makes me feel sorry for them as they havent hada good up bringing. While this explains this, it does not excuse it.

Manners dont cost anything, I try to say please and thankyou at all times, and as for toffs, why behave like that its pathetic.

Re: What happen to good old manner???

It's just as easy to say "excuse me" as it is to say "oi oi" and far nicer for the person on the other end. It really bugs me when some people act as if others are beneath them because they are "serving" either as shop assistants or waiters or something. I remember a scene in "Half a Sixpence" where Kip didn't know what knife and fork to use for each course and one bloke ridiculed him for not being a gentleman and someone else commented that there was only one person there who wasn't a gentleman and it wasn't Kip.

Many years ago I went out with a posh guy (His Dad had bought him an island for his birthday so you get the idea!) but he did the snapping of fingers and "oi!" bit to summon a waitress and that put me right off him.

They're asking for bad service by treating you that way. When I'm serving people in my job I'm as polite and friendly to them as they are to me.

I think I would find it very difficult to be civil if someone spoke to me like that, though are people like that worth getting upset over?

Like others have said, good manners cost nothing, and bad manners are a personal bug bear of mine.

I hate it when people don't say please or thank you. When people don't either write a thank you letter, or at least phone after receiving a gift, also shows the height of bad manners.

Strangely I've found it to be the socially climbing middle classes who appear to be the most ill mannered. Those at the top and bottom of the so called social scale, share amongst other things respect, and good manners. It is those odious people, who think they are proving themselves better than others by being rude, that have the real problem.

If the sad people who think clicking your fingers illicits better service, they are mistaken. They are more than likely to ingest the waiter's saliva with their soup, or indeed have had their soup spoon put somewhere where spoons really shouldn't go.:D
