Personally I think Gordon Brown has a little more backbone than Tony Blair, he has in my opinion done a good job as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
I honestly believe if he had got the job in the first place we would not have been in Iraq or Afganistan, good luck to him, as he has quite a mess to clear up after Dubyas Poodle.

To answer Gayle's original question, yes, every member of the Labour Party will get a vote in the Deputy Leadership contest. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a proper contest for the leadership as well but in the end there was no serious challenger to Gordon. I wouldn't presume to try and tell anyone who to vote for - in my opinion there is little to choose between most of the candidates which is reflected in the fact that they all got a similar number of nominations.

Certainly not - you'll not catch me hugging a hoody, unlike Eton's finest!:)

I use blue text in all my e-mails. I just like the colour.

I don't want you to tell me how to vote - what I was asking was why he got your nomination, you know him better than us. I've already received information from Hazel Blears and her supporters.

I would like to have seen a contest as well. Debate is good for democracy.

One redeeming quality of Gordon I hope is that his dourness and long answers actually represents more honesty and less soundbite politics.

I agree with Greg, the candidates for Deputy are much of a muchness but like Greg, my choice is Hilary Benn for his honesty and genuiness.

I don't think he ever said that did he.

I'd have liked to see a contest. Even if I couldn't vote it would give some sense of democracy taking place rather than a coronation of a chancellor whos of course, done great things, but totally incapable of admiting where he has been wrong such as pensions and selling off our gold reserves cheaply losing billions, more than Black Wednesday.

I would have liked to see a Leadership Election, but sadly there is not to be one. Like Greg and Graham I shall be voting for Hilary Benn.

'Dave' just yesterday back tracked on his reported hug a hoodie quote from last year. According to the Daily Mail he's getting tough on crime, though its not quite clear if he's advocating happy slapping a hoodie...just yet.:D

he may have more backbone that tony blair, but he has one less eye,and as he is scottish and is a member of the scottish parliament(different laws to us ) how can he then govern great britain when he is subject to 2 different sets of rules (i think)

I think if you'r going to go down that road, we all ought to look at our backgrounds you'll probably find a bit of Scot/Irish/
Welsh and just maybe a little English. I challenge anyone on this site to prove the are pure bred English men/women.
