Anyone applying for a job, that made the slightest mistake in grammar, was the first to be eliminated. If they cannot organise a piece of paper what can they organise. It is a pity these standards were allowed to slip.

Strange as it may seem I wonder about the grammar in this title:-

Even with grammatical spelt correctly, I wonder if that is a correct grammatical question, ignoring all else where is the question mark at the end of the sentence?
:p

Do we really need to worry if one's grammar is not perfect. As a population we never read everything perfectly in a newspaper so why should one worry. :p

Yes. As each generation is allowed to believe that it doesn't matter then how are we to produce further generations of children who can spell/punctuate properly?
One day there will be nobody left who knows the rules of the English language.:(

Well thanks to chat rooms sms on mobiles etc then it will never be correct. Unless schools push English harder then we will have this problem for years to come.

Very true. The education authorities should place much more importance on this than they currently do.

Language changes over centuries -- as one who was compelled to translate Chaucer for A level -- I know how difficult it is to understand- try reading this
Index.html
Flee fro the prees and dwelle with sothfastnesse;

Suffyce unto thy thing, though it be small,

For hord hath hate, and climbing tickelnesse,

Prees hath envye, and wele blent overal.

Savour no more than thee bihove shal,

Reule wel thyself that other folk canst rede,

And trouthe thee shal delivere, it is no drede.

Tempest thee noght al croked to redresse

In trust of hir that turneth as a bal;

Gret reste stant in litel besinesse.

Be war therefore to sporne ayeyns an al,

Stryve not, as doth the crokke with the wal.

Daunte thyself, that dauntest otheres dede,

And trouthe thee shal delivere, it is no drede.

That thee is sente, receyve in buxumnesse;

The wrastling for this world axeth a fal.

Her is non hoom, her nis but wildernesse;

Forth, pilgrim, forth! Forth, beste out of thy stal!

Know thy countree, look up, thank God of al;

Hold the heye wey and lat thy ghost thee lede,

And trouthe thee shal delivere, it is no drede.

In this high speed, high tech age more people are communicating with each other and the language evolution seems to be happening faster.
I still get annoyed when I see misspelling and punctuation because I remember how much importance was put on it in my school days - ie it was 'drummed into me'

So it should be. It's a pity that standards are not as high today.

The fact that these people will have A level English is very worrying. It just goes to show how little importance is placed on spelling and punctuation in the exams. Terrible.:(

The problem is that when people do not use correct spelling, punctuation and grammar it can lead to all manner of misunderstandings and misinterpretations.

Classic grammatical errors such as "Dining table belonging to little old lady with Queen Anne legs." may be amusing but others can be far more serious.

I understand what it should say and mean but as you say it could be taken the wrong way.

OK how about this one for more serious implications:

'After having brutally attacked several people in the house, Mr. Smith finally apprehended the burglar in the cellar.'

Now we assume that it was the burglar who had attacked people but the way it is written it literally means that Mr. Smith didn't care who he clobbered in his hamfisted attempts to nab this theif! The problems then arise when people give such statements to the press which are then printed and people read them as Mr. Smith having attacked people and they go on the rampage to get revenge against him.

That has extremely serious implications for Mr Smith. Best thing to do is not speak to the press. It shows that something as simple as statements pavement style can be dangerous.
