Coffee!!

Went shopping in Burnley this afternoon with my daughter We decided to go for a brew and something to eat. Anyway I got two sandwiches, a pot of tea and an Espresso. When the Espresso arrived it was in one of those tiny cups and was really strong. My daughter couldn't drink it and I am not sure if that is how it is served. I know we have a few coffee drinkers on here so I'm sure one of you will tell me whether it was served properly. By the way it cost £1:25 for something that was left!!!

Yes it was served correctly :)

Was it the stall in the market hall. ?

Re: Coffee!!

That was the correct way to serve it, you probably wanted a cappucinno which is an espresso topped up with foamed milk.

Espresso's are an aquired taste as they are very strong.

No it was in M&S, I just wondered if it was right. That is what my daughter gets for trying to save me fifty pence:p

Sadly the coffee served in cafés these days is a relative of dishwater. The tea isn’t much better either.

Long, long ago, circa 1940’s, there was a café in Whalley where multitudes of cyclists and hikers would call in for a mug of real coffee before and after their day out. A drink to die for, it was that good. If I remember correctly it was sixpence for a normal mug and ninepence for a pint pot.

It’s probably not there today and even if it is I doubt if the coffee is the same.

Might be better with a Latte if she wants a more traditional (English style) coffee.

I drink coffee a lot but never, ever order espresso! Far too strong. I always order an Americano - which is just a basic black coffee.
