my friend was a bin man, in the days where they held onto the side of the waggon instead of getting in and out everytime, he feel off and under the wheels and lost his leg.... he didnt get any comp because the council said they told them not too....

My binmen come to my back door and take the bin and empty and bring it back to my back door. Im on the assisted scheme .. so no need for dragging it up to the gate and leaving it out, they come and drag it up there and drag it back.

Do you have a letter A painted on your bin? I have heard about this provision for the disabled. I might qualify, having arthritis in neck and shoulders.

my cousins baby is disabled and they dont qualify because she is not disabled... she cant leave the baby alone but still has to drag her bin to the end of the back street...

Another point to add to a post i started awhile back(ahem).......why, on recycling day when i get home from work do we have nearly as much recycling scattered on our front street than we had in our bags and boxes in the first place????? After emptying my own bins for 6 weeks over dec/jan am i now expected to clean the streets for the council as well????:mad:

i dont recycle yet my garden ends up full of everone elses rubbish and when i rang up to complain i was told that they send a crew around to tidy up afterwards but they cant enter my garden on the grounds of health and safety.This must be because of the 6ft deep trenches i have dug and the landmines i have scattered accross my lawn i assume :rolleyes:

basically i have to tidy OTHER peoples crap because the collection team cant hit literaly the back of a bin waggon with a milk bottle and this is assuming i mangae to dodge the local verminous cats crap, between HBC and the local vermin i can see why the clean up team dont want to enter my garden.

i may purchase a high powered air rifle for one of teh problems but havnt yet decided what to use on teh cats :)

The refuse team in Rishton are superb and I always give them a tip at Christmas as they have saved a few people on our street an awful lot of money. Many of our residents are elderly and they're usually willing to get rid of any extra items for them within reason. On the odd occasion that there has been a bin bag left out by someone or (heaven forbid) a lid hasn't been fully closed there's no messing about leaving things behind either.

A superb bunch and we'd be lost without them. Look at the uproar in January when they couldn't get to us at all.

i think the uproar was totaly justified ,the way the council handled the situation was disgusting to say the least

I agree entirely. The grit situation could easily have been avoided by stocking up to capacity during the summer and spending our money on something we actually need.

To give our binmen their dues, they did at least try to get the truck down Bridge Street in Rishton which is more than I would have dared to do. To watch several tons of wagon ice skating with no real finesse wasn't very comfortable.

When are the budgets set by the County Council?

I am not sure who we should be blaming for the lack of grit supplies, the current or previous Council.

I know the Government got involved to deside who should get the supplies of grit once the problem occured.
