Well firstly, i've been in a similar situation to emma and used maundy grange. I've also requested getting onto the housing list at one point, so I know how to do that, and it was....2 yrs ago, so I'm guessing its not changed at all too much so I can give advice on this issue.

Secondly, I was in the position of her little boy once, though a bit older, and my mum was able to deal with the problem really well and we got housed really fast, and so I feel that if she can do it after really being kicked out into the cold night, then its possible, and I know there is no way in hell that she'd have left me at my grandparents, gone out, and then sat on the internet at her friends house the next day whilst I was worried and confused.

The only difference is that it wasn't new years day.

my son is here with me..... we had already arranged for him to stay last night so picking him up would have confused him...

Re: bye all

So what difference does it make that she's on the internet? Presumably her little boy is asleep so it won't be affecting him at all. You got housed 'really fast' and it wasn't New Year's Day. She's not even been homeless 24 hours yet and it IS New Year's Day.

I dont think she classes as homeless at the moment with staying at a friends. You have to actually be on the street, or thats what I was told when I went. Think she'd class as being 'temporarily accomodated'. Hence why I suggested that her friend sets an 'eviction' date so they assume she will be made to go onto the streets.

well why dont you start then because so far all you have done is mock people and try to belittle the situation and for someone who as apprently been there you dont seem to be very compassionate.

This is what HBC call homelessness - Homelessness and Housing Advice - Am I Homeless?

Homelessness and Housing Advice

Am I Homeless?

Many people assume that being homeless means sleeping on the street, but this isn't the case. You are homeless if you have no permanent accommodation of your own, so you could be:
  • Sleeping Rough.
  • Staying on a friends floor or settee.
  • Living in a hostel, bed and breakfast or refuge.
You could also be threatened with homelessness if you have your own home but are at risk of losing it for reasons such as:
  • Being asked to leave by your landlord or parents.
  • Suffering domestic violence or harrassment.
  • Leaving the armed forces, prison or hospital.
  • Getting into rent or mortgage arrears.
  • Your relationship has broken down.

The last I heard she was being denied access to her stuff, but that may well have changed. I dont know how these things work, but I cant see the Council finding her a home without also helping with basic furnishings i.e beds

Unfortunately, just recently thrown loads of stuff out which may have been useful, just bibs and bobs, like pictures, ginger jars, etc., somewhere in the loft .. these can be personal taste and she may not want.

Will take a look over the weekend anyway.

Hyndburn Used Furniture Store took my old suite away. Seems to be a charitable organisation for people like Emma who have found themselves in this type of situation, but really don't know how they operate. Is on Fairfield Street and possibly linked to the Council ? 01254 393784.

HUFS is brill if ya really in need....they deliver for nothing and theres a massive list with whats for sale (at a VERY CHEAP) price and you just tick a box and the items are yours, they do everything from kettles, cots and cookers......i send my things to them if i get new stuff.I have sent Jacks old (but not crap) buggies, hoovers, tables, umbrellas and allsorts and i hate it when i see people throw out good condition stuff when they upgrade because with just one phone call they could give it to this charity AND get it taken away for nothing.

Emma has now taken delivery of 2 portable tv's, a 2 seater leather settee, a vaccuum, a kettle (though not bought tea bags yet, lol), a child's desk and some kitchen item's (think bits of crockery), the house has carpets, and she has some decorating to do, the housing people donated a bit towards decor. Anyhow, if anybody else has anything to offer, feel free to pm me and I will endeavour to collect and deliver. Emma ask me to give thanks to the people who have helped so far.

What an awful situation to be in, I'm going round tonight with cutlery, towels, cups, glasses and a few bits and bobs.

Kate, i havent got a clue, mine's growing up too fast, i cant keep up with him ;)

when i went in Em's last night i noticed she had, tv's, settee's, carpets thank god, cooker

SHE DEFINATELY HASNT GOT A FRIDGE OR FREEZER she is keeping her milk in a bowl of cold water, so if anyone has one they don't need she would be more than grateful for it

What a sensible idea ! :)

Been round to Em's earlier this evening and must say she's done a good job of turning a house into a home...looking cosy.

She wants everyone to know once again how greatful she is for everyone who has helped her on here...in fact she has that many mugs now it was suggested that everyone on here could turn up and she would have enough to make brews for all :D She has even named it her accyweb house :)

The only things she is short of now is a fridge & freezer as flashy has mentioned and a washer & dryer...now she isn't expecting anyone to just turn up with them, but if you are in the process of buying any of the above new and want rid of the old ones, she would be only to happy to take them off your hands.

And of course fog horn mouth here managed to wake her little lad up :o but all was forgiven when he saw his new flinstone egg cup and scooby doo glasses :D what a cutey he is

Hope she managed to get him back to sleep though :o

If i still worked for the council id be able to get loads of things. They collect hundreds of old fridges and freezers, but doubt they would be willing to give one away as they make money out me selling them for scrap metal. Hope everything works out for em as she is soooo sweet, and her lads well cool. Dont think i have anything of use (nothing of mine gets replaced until its well and truly dead lol). Really is nice though to see everyone jumping in to help someone in need.
