On BBC News today a chap has been saying that there is to be an enquiry into school allocations because some schools have not obeyed the new rules.

Is it the schools or the Education Authorities? I did not think the schools picked the kids, I thought they were given to them by the education authority.

I was doing other things when it was on - but recall hearing something about some schools had given preference to children of parents who had contributed financially to the school -- old story - backhanders

PS BBC NEWS | Education | Shock over schools 'breaking law'

Re: Secondary School Admissions for September

i have been thinking for a long time now if i should really bother with Our Ladys or not, should i chance Reece getting a place there or should i ring up another school and ask if they have any places left? i rang Rhyddings and spoke to a lovely lady over the phone who advised me to ring the Globe Centre in Accrington, which i did, and they have several places left at Rhyddings, yes i know i should have put 3 choices down in the first place, and yes this is my own stupid fault for not obiding by the rules, but i needed to settle a place for Reece so both he and me have piece of mind, so i'm off to the education today to accept a place for Reece at Rhyddings
as long as he doesnt have to go to Blakewater i'm not bothered

Travel is bearable if it gets the education you want for him.
My grandson travelled from Ossy to Waterfoot, changing buses, for his secondary school.
He didn't get home until turned 5pm - but time spent on the bus = time not spent getting into mischief ;)

My grandaughter had to do something similar Margaret. Catch the bus from Clayton to Whalley, change there for bus out to Grindleton . Bowland High School. Her mum did a practice run with her before school opened and she went every day herself from thereon. Now she is living in Dewsbury, and at college in Leeds, so walking down to the station and catching train is no hardship for her.

I think Flashy lives around Intack ? not very far. She will no doubt let us know, and feel sure will be on some sort of bus route. I'm pleased she is getting Reece sorted anyway.

Yes, there is a direct bus route from Flashy's to the school.

That surprises me - must be a school special - I thought he would need to change buses at Church lights.
