I agree, Margaret. I have used Sainsbury's online for about 4 years now and I never check deliveries whilst the driver is still here. I check it off as I put it away after the driver has gone. On the very rare occasion, perhaps once or twice, that I have found an item to be missing or damaged I have phoned the number on the receipt and the item is credited without question. They are very good. |
Re: Checking deliveries
Well speaking as a delivery driver myself most delivery companies do follow the same ways as tesco where you sign for the item/s and check. If there is any damage you are covered by various different means. There is nothing worse than when you deliver something being asked stupid questions like what is it? How the hell do i know you ordered it. Is it for me? I have just said your name havent i? I dont have time for people to check the things i deliver thats why i always put unchecked next to their names but some still get stroppy and say well i aint signing for it then. Simple answer to that for me.... ill take it back then goodbye and all of a suden they change their minds, strange.

Re: Checking deliveries
Most consignees in businesss will not check the contents whilst the driver waits .. the only thing they are expected to do is to sign for the number of cartons/parcels and if a shortage will make a note of that.
Have always to rely on the honesty of customers after that, and seems like the Supermarkets are very good with this .. as would be too difficult to prove otherwise. Sometimes .. weight of consignment can be an indication .. but not foolproof. Agree though that the driver could have been a little more civil to you Entwisi. Can be rotten for some 'carrier' drivers though .. they sometimes have to take the flack for late deliveries from companies when nothing to do with them at all. |
Re: Checking deliveries
Ok seeing as it was pool night last night - i got told the story last night and i agree with entwisi - i wouldnt sign for something that i hadnt checked. Could possibly be because i used to be storekeeper and signing for stuff that i hadnt checked could possibly cause great hassle to me, the supplier, my boss and if it was needed urgently the bus passengers... If i had to sign it and didnt have time to check it or in some cases the stuff was too big to come into the stores we did sign it unchecked.
One thing though - where was Julie when all this was going on? :D:D:D |

Re: Checking deliveries
I was doing the ironing.
I shouted through to the kitchen that if he didn't want to wait while it was checked off then he could take it all back. To which he stormed off to his van. It took him longer to winge than it took Ian to check it all off. |
Re: Checking deliveries
I would never check things off just sign for it safe in the knowledge that if there was a problem i could easily get it sorted.
Yes the manner in which the driver spoke to you was wrong but they are on a strict time schedule and really don't need to be hanging about whilst people check every little item they have ordered, they do get into trouble if they take too long. At the end of the day they are only doing their job to their instructions. And no i am not biased because i work for tesco! |
Re: Checking deliveries
Just wondered what they do about frozen foods ... are they specially insulated or anything ? Or are their vans thermostatically controlled or whatever ?
|
Re: Checking deliveries
The vans have a refridgeration section.
The driver always presents me with separate bags of 'chilled' and 'frozen' as the last items to hand over. I suppose that they are instructed to draw your attention to them so that they can be put into your own refridgeration before anything else is stored away. |
