Re: Public Transport and Yobs

Roy I fully understand your point, I am also in a serivce industry.

On my walk round of the aircraft, I will open a hold if it is shut and have a look inside, check the wheel wells for anything out of the ordinary. The cabin crew always check the interior of the aircraft, storage bins, toilets etc for anything.

I personally don't see a problem here, I would have thought in these troubled times that a Bus driver would want to have a quick check of his Bus before a fresh run to make sure there is no security threat, (bomb!). I know I would.
BG

ps.On a small note, in the old days (90's), Drivers for Pilkingtons Buses, used to get paid for sweeping and mopping their buses out after the shift.

I agree with the sweep and given time all drivers do it but sometimes the driver pulls into the bus station and has to change over to another bus.
Schedules are so tight for economic reasons that drivers have no time to do what's expected of them.
If a driver is running late that causes a chain reaction and corners have to be cut.
I know it should'nt happen but it does.

agree sadly, economics comes before public safety in some cases, way of the world.:(

Bus drivers dont sweep the buses but coach drivers do.

Some bus drivers are actually coach drivers. Some bus routes are operated by coach companies.

On the subject of the little kid who took a free busride. I can see how easily he could have done that, just got on the bus when a bunch of paying adults were getting on. Little diddies are not paid for and the bus driver wouldn't query whose child it was. No need for him to know. He would just assume one of the adults was the parent.

Roy mate, fully aware of commercial considerations, we have it too in the plane game, Ryanair do 20 min turn rounds, including taxi to and from the runway. I could say thats why we have unions, but I can only imagine that the TGWU and RMT's hands are just as tied as BALPA's. It is a shame that people who are doing a very important job, with lots of peoples lives in their hands, I mean Bus drivers, not my lot, are given such short shrift. Management and bean counters have a lot to answer for.

Do they not have to enter the little diddies into the ticket machine like they do with bus passes even when there is no charge for the pass holder? I know of a bus company that do so they can correctly analyze the passengers on each bus.
