Prominently or not if the bag has the shop name on it then we will be paying for the privilege of advertising the shop.

Asda and the others should pay us for advertising the store.

I went to morrisons on my lunch break early last week and they had started this... all well and good but..

why not give customers prior notice so they know to bring bags in (which I told them in no uncertain terms was out of order)

and they were giving one longer life bag free per customer and the charity ones were 10p... they may be stronger but you can't fit half as much in as they don't seem very wide!!!!!

I had a right jobsworth too, I do the shopping for the works tuck shop and had bought a massive amount of chewing gum, which is strong mint and I didn't want it to taint any other shopping so I asked for one of the small bags that they wrap meat in and she said she couldn't give me one!!!!!! That was until I kicked up a bit of a fuss, then she said...ok just this once... then I embarrassed the hell out of her by pointing out the next till along who was still giving out the old carrier bags free of charge!!!!!!!!!!

I use the free asda bags to line my bins with and if i accumulate too many then I take them back to asda's recycle bin.
I always carry some decent carrier bags in my hand bag when I do my town shop and refuse the the free bags when they are offered.

Was in tesco today down rawtenstall and i did have my normal bag with me for carrying shopping in but i bought a bit more than i thought i needed - anyway just nabbed the normal carrier bags and wasnt charged for them.

I think the official start date is 1 June, so they are probably just trying to eek out their supply of bags by starting early in some stores.

Tesco home deliveries offer extra Tesco Clubcard points if you specify 'no bags' when you order.
That incentive is better than charging for them.
Better to use a carrot instead of a stick, to cut down on bag usage.

I’m not falling out with you BERNADETTE, just pointing out that if Asda want me to advertise their store they should pay me to do so or at least not charge me for a carrier bag.

This latest ‘green’ move by the supermarkets is nothing more than a cynical exploitation of their customers.

They know that most of the free carrier bags that they supply are re-used as bin liners of one sort or another.

So we will now have to BUY bin liners (more profit for the supermarkets) and the supermarkets will make even more profit by SELLING us carrier bags for 5p each. And then to add insult to injury they get free advertising.

bloody disgusting behaviour from asda if you ask me , i dont want to have to remember to pick up re used shopping bags when i go out to shop and i certainly dont want to have them stored in my home

disposable carrier bags should be kept for those that want them and those that want to use the others can suit themselves

if asda want to save the planet they could use strong brown paper bags like many shops do in america

i cant edit my previous post but i just found out its not actualy the shops to blame for this its the bloody government yet again

now the government has sorted out the great plastic bag crisis will they now be able to get on with sorting less important things out like crime and poverty etc :rolleyes:

one thing i wonder is how far is this lunarcy going to spread

should i save my bag from next and keep it with me at all times just incase i decide to go and purchase a new item of clothing

i bet asda for example are making a right pretty proffit at 5p a carrier bag

Asda not doing free bags anymore???? I got them yesterday :confused:

But if asda start doing this that means I will have to start buying bin bags, i used my carrier bags for my rubbish.

When I went to Asda today, they only had 5p bags at the tills but still had the free bags at the self servis tills.

just out of curiosity as i have never used home delivery how does teh driver get all yor shopping to your door and if not in bags will your shopping not roll around teh back of the van lol

just dont order eggs :D

They deliver in plastic crates - about the size of milk crates. They are designed to slide on racks in the delivery van and have a number temorarily stuck on each crate so that when the driver looks at them he can get out all those with your allocated delivery number. Chilled and frozen goods travel in a seperate chilled section of the van.

When you specify 'no bags' you still get some - items such as soap powders that smell strong will be seperately wrapped before being put in the crate.

I consider that great care is taken by Tesco to ensure that there is no damage during transit. They have been doing home deliveries longer than Asda and do it better.
