Who runs the buses? I assume that Accrington Corporation Transport is long gone. Are the buses run for profit, or are they subsidised by some level of local govt.?

That's only your fuel cost. Don't you insure, maintain or pay road tax on your vehicle? Does it not depreciate?

Some of us have to rely on public transport because we don't drive!
I personally have no problems with the bus service up Huncoat it costs 80p into town compared with 3.50 for a taxi and god knows what if we had a car.
And what might seem an easy walk for some people isn't for others so maybe certain people should think before they post.

Well said, not everybody has their own transport and by the same token not everybody can manage to walk the short distances that some members seem to find a stroll. Might be better asking people without their own car or having difficulty walking if public transport works for them before knocking it!!!!

Many people do struggle walking as they do other everyday tasks.

Used to walk from town early hours, to Huncoat and short cut through the cemetary.. then I'd Jog!.. but it's a long trek.. I reckon women (or men) with kids in prams should have free transport.. some may say this could be abused, but by how many?.. there maybe bods that would stoop to just getting an empty pram and using it as a freebie.. but not many.

Exactly!
I don't understand how people can knock something that is invaluble to so many people myself included.
Sometimes i can manage to walk into town but i suffer from dizzy spells on and off so somedays it isn't possible for me to walk and feel safe so the buses and taxis are a godsend for me and many other people too.

Thanks for that.I would have to get a taxi to the bus stop and that would cost the same as going the whole way in the taxi.:confused:

I live up a hill in ossy and he walks to and from the co-op every single day up and down the hill.

I think some people just find excuses for it. He even has a little luggage thing on wheels so he carries our milk home :p I think I underappreciate my little brother, and I am certainly going to give him a big hug when I get home! Here I am pointing out that there aren't two people to supervise, I can't supervise when I am at university.

Obviously when we have no choice but to walk we find a way to do it, so obviously I am going to think it is lazy to not walk up that hill. We can't always afford a taxi either, but we can't just sit around feeling sorry for ourselves. Taxi's are more often than not an unnecessary method of travel.

No ones sat here feeling sorry for ourselves. As far as I was aware this post started with costs of public transport being compared to private, and the fact the cost between them both was very little in some cases.

I firmly believe that if the Government is wanting to take cars off the road, and entice people to use public transport as an alternative, the cost is a major issue.

The only major hill I can think of in ossy is the hill that leads to the top roads. If thats the one, then fair play to your brother. Doesnt entitle you to knock other people, or their children. I have a car, my son goes in it all over the place. We arrive, he runs round like a mad man, eventually we get back in the car. Doesnt make me a bad mum, or him obese.
