Now I wonder what would happen if they did not attend the time-tabled activities, left the campus (maybe to go to a butty shop?) or were not in their resident blocks by 11pm? Would they be left to wander where they want?

Now I am pretty sure that I told you that I preach 'consequences' day in, day out, even to my friends, about not following rules. I think I have experienced enough consequences for breaking rules to last me a life time.
There are more rules than that, one is not hanging out of the windows. We have a nice water gun to deal with that. I'd be surprised if any ever tried to leave campus, it's never happened before, but there are of course student ambassadors all over campus when they are on their free time so they can't run off or get lost on campus.
Seeing as you all are criticising the summer schools though, it shouldn't really bother you that your kids didn't get this opportunity.
