Not had time to look at but if 1st page anything to go by pewwwwwwwwwwwww that hotel could be in trouble and have they heard of the American owners???????

Would that have happened if it was US troop out of uniform visiting?

Love to hear what they have to say given the way their troops get respect!!!!!

Eric I guess the North Americans know how to support their troops all we can do here is disrespect them and the dangerous job that they willingly under take on behalf of this COUNTRY not goverment (they maybe the bosses but they are not the Country)

uk troops just dont get treated with the respect and courtesy that their american counterparts get

if an american solider is on leave and in full uniform in a restaurant - there's a very good chance someone will offer to pick up his tab. thats how high respect they have for them.

here they get advised not to wear their uniform for fear of attacks.

the only time i think its ok to refuse army personnel - and i know i'm gonna get shot down now - is in a nightclub. esp if its a group of squaddies. alot of clubs if they realise that it is squaddies on a night out they will refuse them entry as after a few drinks they can be a handful.

According to some reports mani I think that's what has been behind this incident, that the hotel has had trouble n the past from a rowdy group of squaddies and adopted a 'never again' policy which unfortunately has been misinterpreted by this particular member of staff and taken to extremes. There is a world of a difference between one smart soldier in uniform sitting at a restaurant table and eating his meal with perfect dignity and a crowd of drunken partying rebel rousers. Maybe army personnel party harder because they have it tougher.

Well I sorry but I disagree. yes squaddies can party hard but no harder than civvies .
You walk into town on a fri or sat night and you will see blokes and even women kicking off.
Its the pubs and clubs that are to blame for this not the squaddies. the pubs/clubs are the ones that sell stupid things like shots/alco pops . have them on special offer. but then dont like to pick up the after effects.
squaddies are no different to your average group of rowdy lads going out, and also like civvies there are good and bad .
you could send two groups of lads out, one being squaddies the other civvies and I,d put money on there being just as much chance of the civvie group kicking off.
Fair enough dont allow same sex groups in your hotel , but to condemn a soldier who Incidently was on his own at ten o clock at night (so assumingly at that time just wanted to get his head down) is and utter disgrace and IMO a quick SORRY!!! isnt good enough.

Canada is not a "military" country. We have a relatively small military; but it is effective, highly trained and very professional, with a long history of effectiveness from Vimy Ridge, to Juno Beach. We have made a commitment to NATO to keep the Canadian Battle Group in Kandahar until 2011; and Canadian troops are suffering casualties .... 96 killed already, and god knows how many wounded physically and psychologically. The majority of Canadians are opposed to the conflict in Afghanistan; but an even greater majority supports our men and women serving there. There is no paradox in this. Every Friday many Canadians wear something red to show support for our troops. Canadian service men and women, in and out of uniform are more than welcome at any business in Kingston .... in fact anywhere in Canada. A hell of a lot of businesses of all types offer discounts to members of the military.

When we bring home our dead to CFB Trenton, the major air transport base, and are taken to Toronto along Highway 401, thousands line the highway to show their respects .... and not only on the nice days; whatever the weather, snow, rain, frigid below zero temps, they are there.

It is reassuring to see the outrage that this incident has generated.
