Maggie would call a spade a spade............you can't do that now.

its not a case of blaming maggie, but what i would love to know is were you 2 slagging the torys when they were in power fer doing sod all? somehow i doubt it.

I quite often spoke out against the Tory Government cashy, especially over the Community Charge, of which I said that the concept was good but the implementation was crap, if the charge had have been set at £50 per head ( but still with benefits for the less well off) I don't think anybody would have objected, but at near £300 per head it was scandalous

Ow'ed on a bit.................the answer to that as far as I am concerned is yes. I would slag anyone I thought was a prat and I did............The Tory's spent years trying to right the wrongs of the Labour Goverment before the emergence of Maggie.
I will probably get slated for this, but here goes.
Taxpayers were losing money hand over fist keeping the railways alive as with the mines, millions of pounds lost and subsadised , not by the government but the taxpayer.
Easy money from the IMF was not available then as the country was still paying off its debts for the second world war.
The country was on the verge of bankrupcy as it is today under a labour government......spending money you have not got is why we are in this mess now.
Some of us chose to call the Americans but if they had called the debt that was due to them on the due date, we would have been in deep crap.

I think I was too.............but twelve years on and nothing.
The plight of the Gurhas is ongoing and there is no excuse for the current labour government to ignore the claim of these gallant men.
If GB can borrow money to keep the high paid nabobs of the civil service, then surely he can this situation on board.......probably I'ts beyond his Ken?

Thought you might like to know that this issue will be before the Commons tomorrow. There are motions down from the main parties but some backbench MPs (including me) will be tabling an amendment calling for justice for the Gurkhas. It will be interesting to see what happens.

it will be very interesting, hope some good will come of it at the end of the day, my cynicism doubts it though.

It is good to hear that all is not lost Greg. Power to your elbow.
I hope that we can see sense and let these brave men have the hospitality of our country....and chuck some of the other layabouts over the hedge
