My nine-year-old was watching one of the "Police Camera Action" type programs and saw someone driving like he wanted to kill himself, pedestrians, and other drivers (he wasn't being chased, the cars had broken off as it had got too dangerous, he was being filmed from a helicopter). His jaw dropped when he heard that the driver got just three months in prison and three points. I had to explain the significance of points and the fact that if he behaved in prison, he'd probably just be in there for six weeks.

A few weeks earlier, there was a similar program where a crim had been boxed in under a railway bridge, so he reversed hard at a motorbike copper knocking him off and wedging him between his bike and a bridge support. I think his penalty was stiffer- a year or so, plus a multi-year ban, but it was still a bit farty when you compare it with the penalty for the American driver on the same program who did the same thing. They all pulled their guns out and shot him to death.
