currently going through a shambolic mess due to my mum dying last january and her not leaving a will, but she did leave a couple of policies worth £***** and nothing put in writing where they should have went to..so under the law they automatically get shared between myself and both sisters (her kids), the result of that is other family members totally disowning us and making sure we have been written out of a certain will which is their choice, things have been said to us all which have burnt more than a few bridges and it will be more their loss than ours.
the thing I have learned through this is to have a will in place (now sorted) and some people are only friendly when they think money is up for grabs.

If you die without a will then it would be shared amongst your nearest blood relatives first..if no living full blood relatives, then neices, nephews etc... if no relatives at all can be found then it goes to the state.

However I really think it is important to make a will so the money goes where you want it to go and not someone else deciding for you..

another thing to think about if you want it shared amongst a few people is to have it written in percentages and not amounts...savings, property values and some policies can go up and down ...

eg is.. my Great Aunty died last year, she had no children and had specified varying amounts to many family members/friends and the remaining amount (at the time the largest amount due to it including her home) to be shared equally between her two favourite neices... however, although the will was only a few years old her savings had reduced and her home had dropped drastically in value.. the two neices tried to make sure everyone got what they were left from her estate which at the time of writing the will would have come from savings/policies alone..but at the time of her death it wasn't enough and because her home had dropped in value so much they nearly ended up getting alot less than others named in the will which is never what my Aunty had wanted!!

So think very carefully how you write your will and try to make people very aware of what your wishes are :)

You should NEVER do a will yourself. Get someone with a lot of experience and knowledge to write it for you, with you present, and consider whilst it is being wrote how someone could misinterpret it to take advantage.

It's not nice to think how people might take advantage but it definitely does happen.

I was talking to one woman who told me that her parents had left all their money to the dogs home.
She was most upset when I suggested that she would at least get a share.
Not spoken to me since,can't think why.:D:dogrun:

As I will either be fertiliser or cement powder I dont have a clue what will happen to my worldly stuff. To stop arguing maybe I should blow it all up if I get enough warning of my iminate demise. :p

seen as i have nothing much i guess teh only thing i can offer is that when my body is cremated it will provide some heat for young couples making out behind teh cremitorium

like other souls have done for me when i was younger

its nice to give a little back if you can :D
