The government.

Well at least for the next twelve months...at the longest.

Funniest tale I heard, from a family member, was a well known businessman was chased out of the polling station, because he still had his voting slip, and didn't vote for anyone because his preferred candidate was 'a (blank)in' Pak-i'.

It looks like the all this Tory caring/sharing/hug a hoody/embrace all colours, creeds and sexual orientation, hasn't quite trickled down to grass roots level yet.

Was Graham not the councillor for another ward prior to yesterday?

Graham is a local Councillor in Peel Ward. The County seat which he has just won includes Peel, but also Barnfield and Baxenden.

I'm really pleased at that, especially that we now have Peter Britcliffe for Oswaldtwistle. :mosher:
A good day nationally for the Conservatives. :D

How are the fringe parties and the independents doing?

You can't really get that message across very well unless there are more than the three parties to vote for.......we had just a conservative and a labour candidate to vote for....... a vote for either of those doesn't really register as a protest........if there had been an independent candidate or perhaps a green party candidate then there may have been a bigger turnout and folk may have cast their vote for someone other than labour, conservative or lib dems........so this being the case, many people have stayed away and not voted for anyone.

Listening to CBC radio tonight, a show called As It Happens ... they had a phone interview with Tony Benn ... one thing he said about governments that I found myself agreeing with, is that the two heavyweight parties over there are acting more like managers than representatives .... thought about it for a while, and I tend to agree with his statement ... or at least with how I interpreted it ... and the same applies to our govt. too. The mess that Brown finds himself in made the CBC national news, just behind an item on the sixty fifth anniversary of D-Day.

the thing is the bnp can make all the promises they want as they know they're far away from getting into power. once they start gaining that power people will only realise then just how right wing they really are.

like i didnt actually know till recently but if your not english white you cant become a member of the party. if your girlfriend is spanish or has heritage of non-english you will be coaxed/asked to leave the party. if your flat mate isnt white english you will be asked to leave the party.

not many people are aware just how right wing the bnp is from its roots

Tony Benn's sentiments mean nothing these days..and never have...he's argument against right wing toryism and facists fall on deaf ears when the price of milk goes up.
Tony may be a blast from the past and judging by the way this electorate are feeling he will be dead well before we have any socialist government here... R.I.P to Labour..let the Tory dogs out!
