LOL Margaret .. just that I have always been of the opinion that M.P's should be required to retire like the rest of us ... I know you can apply to work on longer than the set age for women and men, but we all do deteriorate brain wise as we get older, and politicians aren't super human. Know the experience is there, but the grey cell agility goes a little.

I have just a feeling that the tories will not chose PB as their candidate. He's already lost twice, and in politics you can start to become a bit of a liability.

I know one thing Bernard I for one would not want an outsider, for me it has to be some one local

I don't think there are any rules baring some one for holding all three posts, but Ken Hargreaves resigned from HBC, and I'm nearly sure Greg was a Blackburn Councillor when he won and stepped down, its rather futile to carry on at local and county level whilst spending most of the time in London
