Men (or Women) on Mars

Any thoughts on wether mankind could step foot on Mars in the next 20ys.. Neil Armstrong reckons it could be done.
It would cost a fortune but should mankind spend massive amounts to explore our solar system?

We got there already but they haven't told us yet.
Dont spread it around, they want it to be a surprise

For the amount of money spent on the two wars against Iraq, and maybe a Nimitz class aircraft carrier, humans could land on Mars, or, to be more precise Barsoom.;)

We can't afford to keep this planet let alone travel to one billions of miles away

Re: Men (or Women) on Mars

why go exploring it woudl be a lot cheaper to let them come to us infact they probably have had a look around and decided not to bother saying hi.

can u imagine what it would be like for an alien to find himself on earth it would probably be teh equivalent of us going on holiday and finding ourselves in iraq when we got off teh plane

They should go to the moon before they try Mars????

Re: Men (or Women) on Mars

We have been to the moon, the last visit was 37 years ago.
We should go back to the moon, use it as a staging post to explore onwards, we know very little of the moon, after all only 12 men have walked on its surface.
Why should mankind go, simple because we can, its in our nature to explore.
We should go 'not because it is easy, but because it is hard' (to kind of steal JFK's quote). We are a race of explorers, why stop now?

yeh right, when ya look at the state of our own world, against the cost of such a mission, its money well spent.

Re: Men (or Women) on Mars

It does not matter how much money we stick into our planet to make it better, it never will.
I work in Africa, look how much money has been pumped into here, it's still the third world. That will never change. If the USA, and they alone have the money and skill want to go to Mars, then they should.
The money it will cost will not help the world be better, we still have Malaria and polio, these cannot be eradicated by money alone, the will of the people is needed as well. The WHO (World Health Organisation) have been trying to eradicate Malaria for years, but some of the leaders of the countries involved will not let the WHO in, thats not Nasa's fault.

no-ones blaming Nasa, just the fools that pump the money into em.

Re: Men (or Women) on Mars

America, today, do not have the expertise to go to the moon, land and take off again to return to earth so lets not pretend that they are capable of "doing" Mars.
