What has happened to Accrington

Just returned to Accrington for a short break after seven years and after driving around visiting friends I thought I was in Afghanistan.I have been told but not sure that this is correct that the football team of Accrington is to be re named in the near future to reflect the towns different ethnic groups.I can imagine what the supporters will be shouting from the stands.I also visited areas around Manchester and saw the union jack flying on public buildings, great to see, shame the PC brigade of Accrington dont allow this.

They might not allow it but they can't stop it, they let everyone else fly whatever flag they want, so let them try to stop us :(

Re: What has happened to Accrington

Why do you think Accrington looks like Afghanistan? I know there is a bit of demolition going on but that's for regeneration, its a good thing and hardly makes the place a war zone.

And what do the 'PC brigade' have to do with anything? Are you being subtle about something you dont feel right in saying, I wonder?

As for Accrington Stanley being re-named, it's obvious someone thinks you're easy to wind up!

Really? It's only been a few months since I was there. It's hard to imagine the masses of opium fields the people of Accrington must now live with. Perhaps it's the rural farmers branching out to earn a little on the side. When I was last there, I can't seem to recall seeing one person that immediately struck me to be of Afghan origin. The appearance must have been a recent occurrence. If you ask me, not at all a bad thing if people are hard working and contribute.

He should have stopped one of the tanks, and asked the way.

I too fail to see any comparisson with a dusty, mountainous country.

The Union flag is flown from public buildings on the same notable dates as it is on public buildings in Manchester.

Very scant on actual details.

Why is it like Afghanistan, and what public buldings around Manchester was the Union flag being flown on, when it wasn't on the same date in Accrington?

Surely it's all down to Climate change and Global warming?

After the last three Summers we have had natural defences which will have altered us, so that a stranger, (& let's face it we couldn't have anyone stranger than Piglet), would think we have all gone a touch darker in shade, I'm sure he isn't being prejudice when he prattles on, that would imply a person of lower intelligence from someone of our tones and we wouldn't want to put him down just because of the colour of his skin now, would we?

Again I'll take you to task,

nobody really contributes, 'willingly', even you will only contribute reluctantly, if like anyone else you thought you could get away with it, you would, but you can't so you do contribute, somewhere, (ex pat just coming on to stir it up couldn't stand the pace here went for an easy life :)), but that is human nature, not just atributted to any one particular race.

It's easy, eh ... if you arive in a place where the Maple Leaf is flying and the soldiers are speaking French, eating poutine, and drinking Tim Hortons coffee, you are in Kandahar;)

They don't speak much French in Ossy, Eric.....they don't speak much English either...in fact, they don't speak much at all. However, their young men do tend to congregate at street corners waiting to ambush whoever may be walking by.

I don't know where "gordie" originbates from - to be honest I don't care. I was born and raised in Accrington/Church until I was 21 and then joined the R.A.F. Been back for visits over the years, still have family there.
Yes, it has changed, maybe for the better, maybe not, but it is still my hometown, and when people try and take the p*** because of Stanley, I will still defend my home town - even though I do not like Stanley and haven't done since the early 50s, but Accrington is my home town. If yu don't like it gordie, there are many who will be prepared to point you to the exit roads, and will not be sorry to see you depart, going off prvious posts on this thread.

I am sorry Barrie that you appear to be a little upset with my thread.I am sure being a proud Accringtonian like you appear to be, you would defend your home town, but like the old saying goes.Sometimes the truth is hard to swallow.Maybe the bit about the football club is not correct but I am sure you know how this rumour as spread if you are aware of the recent football clubs ownership issue. When did ignoring or denying an issue fix anything.

So, you reckon the majority of Accringtonians have a problem that Ilyas Khan, a local lad of Asian origin, has come up with the money to save their football club from oblivion? What utter and complete crap you talk!

So you "know better" about the takeover at Stanley, do you? OK, then, you explain to me why people should have a problem with it.

I am sure that if Joseph Stalin's grandson, a local lad of Russain or Asian origin had come up with the money to save Accrington Stanley football club from, as you quote oblivion, the board of management and finance would reluctantly have accepted it, but that does not mean the supporters would not have a problem with this.
The only utter and complete crap is that you appear to believe, from your quotes, that the Accrington Stanley supporters do not have a problem with the recent issues regarding the football clubs takeover bid.

You really are making a fool of yourself now, aren't you, Gordie? The only problem that Stanley supporters have with the recent takeover bid is that it didn't happen sooner! Ilyas Khan is a hero to Stanley fans and there's plenty of them who aren't exactly Guardian-reading liberals. However, they're not so bigoted that they let a person's racial origin blind them to his other qualities. A pity you can't do the same.

Well Chelsea have a Russian Arsenal have one with a 25% stake and a shady background so I am glad its a local guy that rescued the local team. What happened happened and it was not a fairy tale start but a great ending. If there were mor like Mr Kahn we should encourage them to help locally. If the intentions are honest true and open then I am all for it.

If that dosnt go down well with you then sorry but its tough and you need to become more enlightened if that is possible (though doubtful) in the future!!!!

Your quote. If there where more like Mr Kahn we should encourage them to help locally.
Since Mass immigration started in Accrington, can you inform me
of a local lad or female of Asian origin who has helped the non muslim local community of Accrington without favour or financial reward?
I hope like most Accringtonians that Mr Kahn's intentions are honest and true and open.
It is early days yet, maybe or maybe not,you will become more enlightened.
I hope I don't have to say to you in six or twelve months time, quote
you should have gone to specs saver :D

Are you for real,
Accrington has been the beneficiary of many past and recent genorous donations to serve the benefit of all the community, not just a section of the community. In reply to your question, you are obviously ignorant to the above mentioned and to all the local people who work voluntarily every day with all local old people, etcetera, etcetera.
