Just thought I would warn you to watch your bank accounts seeing as mine has been hacked. I used my card to put some petrol in on the 17th of November prior to going to pick the grandson up from hospital in Liverpool. Since the 27th various amounts have been used to top up O2 phones (not mine). Been to the bank and cancelled my card and have been advised by O2 that it is a matter for the police, will be contacting them shortly but just wanted to warn you all to be extra vigilant.

Nonsense Cashy .. most people have card insurance whether it be credit/debit card ... or crackers if they don't !

I dont have insurance on my debit card however the bank has informed if any fraudulent action took place the money would be credited back into my account but it would take 14 days. It happened to a friend of mine and they received all their money back.

Ok .. must be the season of bad will, here is another sad tale for you:

Daughter textes me this morning ... purse stolen at work ... under her desk in her surgery. Only out of there for about 2 minutes to get stuff from fridge (probably injections or summat).

She is fairly sure took purse to work, as used Boots card to scrape ice off her car window .. :D However, you do question yourself. Not in car ... goes home at lunch to check if she did leave at home. Gets 'phone call on her mobile .. 'tis Nationwide, Bradford .."have had someone in trying to draw out £300 but no identification ... so didn't give them the money" Daughter confirms was not her :eek: so they say "OK ... will cancel this card for you at once as obviously stolen"... asks for her address and date of birth. Daughter gives to them ... :eek:

She get suspicious .. goes back to work ... rings police .. they give her crime no. Rings Nationwide branch, Leeds ... "no, no-one from Nationwide has rung you" :eek:, "but someone has just drawn £500 from your account using your debit card" :eek::eek:

Now the limit for drawing from a cash till at Nationwide is £500 per day .. but these buggers have gone to the desk to draw ... Nationwide ask for no pin number, no identification ... just rely on the signature ... :eek: Lots of their cash machines outside ... would be worth a query one would think.

She is assured will get her money back in 7/10 days ...but now worried ... how did they get her mobile no ? Not in her purse, or her paper work on her desk .. mobile phone in her pocket. Will they be able to get a credit card now having her name and birth date ? ... :eek::eek:

She has an idea of the culprit, as one patient was in a hurry to get away .. and police are looking at CCTV at the bank ... however ... :eek::mad: They getting clever .. giving you a false sense of security with the telephone call .....but Nationwide ...deary me !!!

There is no way my bank (NatWest) would have given me this amount of cash without a driving licence or passport !! And a bl**dy pin number. :eek:

My bank would not have done either without the pin number.

Agree ... they just caught her off guard .. that's what they rely on ... people panicking .. and most banks have a service whereby they will inform you if they think anything suspicious going on.... but certainly not if they ring you. Looks like they may be buying something on line ... they do ask for these details. Card cancelled now of course.

Got me puzzled now Cashy with the insurance .. thought I paid some, but was probably when I had credit./store cards (aint now) . just cancelled these off .. but did leave the debit card on ... maybe just have to register it or summat ... will investigate .. ta.

My bank rang me up week before xmas kate, asking if i had used me credit card that day, they never asked fer any of my details though,they were just checking it was me using it, all they asked fer was -had i? and to pay who?, etc, i was well impressed wi that security check, as i had only used it 5 mins previously.:)

petrol stations are notorious for scanning peoples cards, make sure your card stays in your view at all times

one trick is for them to make it appear not to be working and they say it needs a wipe and you think they are wiping it on their pants but they are swiping it through a scanner under the desk


they usually have a deal with a local shop to allow them to spend repeatedly without asking questions which is what happened to somone i know who had somone spend thousands in a clayton le moors shop ,from the ammount of visits you would have thought the shop owner would have got suspicious that a man was using a womans card but then again in most cases a cloned card dosnt even look like a credit/debit card its a pay as you go top up card reprogrammed or some other type of card so why shop owners allow them to pay with them is very suspicious indeed

I have credit card protection with CPP.......it is something like £29 per year, I also have fraud protection too, in case someone tries to steal my identity....that is a bit more costly at £69 per year.......but it is worth it as they put a named person on the trail of those who try to steal your identity.......and of course you get your money back.
Hope your daughter gets her money back Kate.......it is the bleeding imbuggerance of having to do without your card for days until you get a new one, and also the fact that it is probably someone who was relying on her for help and care. As I said before.....they are scum.
