It should never be more lucrative to live off benefits than to find a job.
This guy had a job and gave it up to sponge off the working man.....his wife has never worked.

Quite agree.

Social benefits should be there to support those in need.

It should not be a choice. Working for a living, or living off the state.

The whole system is flawed.

If everyone decided they'd be better off living off benefits, and no one paid into the pot that funds it, the system would collapse in days.

People deciding to have large families, supported solely by the state, when there is free family planning available, is another matter that needs addressing.

Sadly the days of us thinking we could only have things, whatever those things might be, when we'd saved enough to be able to afford them, are sadly long gone.

I note that Mr Moss has not commented on this one - perhaps he is too busy dealing with local matters:-)

National Assistance (now Income Support) once had a payment limit known as
The Wage Stop.
This was a very complex calculation that we civil servants dreaded having to do.
The basis of it was the wage of a local council labourer.

Applying it ensured that where a large number of children would cause the 'normal' calculation to provide for a high rate of payment of National Assistance, then this Wage Stop would limit it to what that family could receive if the 'breadwinner' was employed as a council labourer.

After studies into 'child poverty', that rule was abolished in 1975

Before accusations start to fly "Albion" in this context is simply a referral to Great Britain, with admittedly the focus being on England. Why this topic ? Why the title ? I sit here hundreds of miles from the Land of my Birth & look on with a feeling of despair & depression at what has become of our verdant Isle.

It seems that a day does not go by when a further injustice is not inflicted on our Land & her people, to view the papers daily is getting harder as each day brings further indignities which leaves the reader uncomprehending & dismayed at our lack of "control".

The above two paragraphs are part of a thread I wrote way, way back in the mists of time entitled "The passing of Albion" ( Saturday 27th March 2010). But it was mostly ignored which is fine, each to their own I suppose, but it was about this sort of depressing instance that encouraged me to pass comment. Sadly we reap what we sow !

Unfortunately, Dave there is little we can do about it. Opinion polls indicate that the issue of the level of immigration into the UK is on a par with concern over the economy. What do our perfidious politicians say about that? Sweet F.A. if you read the political manifestos just published. There is a simple reason for that. At least 200 Constituencies now contain sufficient numbers of recent immigrants to determine the electoral swing on the 6th of May; therefore the mainstream parties do not want to say anything that may adversely affect their vote. Sickening, innit.

But how many are entitled to make that vote ? it would be the ideal time for the Police, Border Agencies & Customs & Immigration officials to be present at the ballot boxes. All those attending require to show some form of identification to cast there vote & those who can't validate their presence should be escorted away & relevant enquiries followed, thereby sorting the Wheat from the Chaff. How difficult can it be ?

At the same time People would see something is being done & maybe that will give encouragement for the future of the Country.

what a great idea......but I fear it is doomed, because there will be those who would cry 'racism' if this was carried out.

Can't see why Marge, not when everyone has to identify themselves. It is an across the board thing I believe, you need to verify who you are & your eligibility to vote so everyone is under the same auspices, no racialism that I can see.

Re: Somehing very wrong in this country

No, I agree......there is no racism at all, but that won't stop those who fear they may be targetted from using the racism card......it seems to me that what Tealeaf says is a true reflection......there is no political will to do anything because these people(the new-comers will vote for the government) or am I just being cynical here?
Personally, I feel that much of the immigration that took place, was to ensure that New labour got their votes and stayed in power....again, maybe I am being cynical.
