Should He Have Been Banned?
A Blackburn soldier caught speeding at 143mph has been allowed to keeep his licence because he was about to go to Afghanistan. He maybe risking his life in Afghanistan but he doesn't seem to have had much regard for life in England whilst going at that speed.
Blackburn soldier driving at 143mph escapes ban as he’s off to Afghanistan (From Lancashire Telegraph) |
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
Of course he should have been banned.
That Judge should now be banned from being a Judge as well. |
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
Heard this earlier on the radio news, of course he should have been banned
|
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
yep
|
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
The judge should have postponed his ban until his return from Afghanistan . Then made it for 5 years with an extended test to get his license back !
|
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
Obviously, anyone with an ounce of common would agree that he should have been banned...which is why a member of the judiciary and Jack Straw think otherwise!

Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
whats new, disgraceful from a judge.

Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
He should have been banned - but how could the ban be enforced if he is in Kabul. It will go on his Military Record I believe.
I remember way back when the Breathalyser was introduced - The Station Commander of a V-bomber base was discharged from the RAF and he was only just over the limit. |
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
In a word YES!

Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
You break the law you pay the piper. He could have killed an innocent bystander.
|
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
I would think his C.O. will hand out a much harsher penalty than anything the judge could have given him.

Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
Soldier or not, what he did was wrong & as such really should've been punished. had it been a couple of MPH over OK, a ticking off then sent on his way with best wishes for a safe tour, but double the National limit !
As it is he'll get punished by his unit for "bringing the Army into disrepute" & probably a Regimental entry(noted on his records). Also as R.E.M.E a licence is required for his trade so he would've lost rank & trade pay. Foolish |
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
Well, I think the Jury are coming across with only one verdict, (to be honest perhaps he's lucky hang, drawing, & Quartering have been Abolished), I have to admit, I'm with the majority so far as 'our' roads are concerned.
Shouldn't it be a case of, he is banned from roads over here, because he was so stupid? But cutting across a piece of Desert or whatever, his chances of keeping a No Claims Bonus, are remote to say the least? Stupidity whilst on leave doesn't stop him being a good Soldier while he fights for his and his mates lives, and our Government's need for him to be, 'There', Wherever there happens to be Politically Correct?. Leave the lad alone, he suffers more than most of us can consider for crying out loud, they even have to wear civvies in their own Country to prevent molestation, (Now that has to be wrong), If no-one else says it, I will 'Aye' up lad, you was a pillock, but I'm proud of you for being there for me and mine. :D __________________ |
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
Less, I agree with some of your post...especially the last line......but I still think he was wrong......he was doing more than twice the legal speed limit....and the fact that he used in his defence 'he thought he was being chased by a Subaru Impreza'...what the Sam Hill has that got to do with anything?
But we were not the judge in the case. and you Less, must wear leather britches if you want to avoid getting splinters in your bum:D |
Re: Should He Have Been Banned?
Oh yes, and before you slate me for saying that you are with the majority...well, you sort of are.......and then again you aren't.
