I think Dave's point was that a small retailer might not be able to afford to employ someone, even if it meant the business could stay open seven days.

Nail on head, although given the fact New Look and JJB have dissapeared maybe it's not just small retailers

Perhaps like you not enough people visit the town centre often enough on Sundays to warrant them opening?

There is only so much money about.......opening seven days a week eats into what little profits are there to be made...after all the shop has to be staffed and lighting and heating paid for.
Don't you think that people who staff the shops want some time for some kind of family life?

H Samuels Jewellers are to close in the Arndale (so why do we need a new bus station, there wont be any shops for anyone to venture into our town).

They could have relocated the businesses currently in the arndale...flattened it and used that as the bus station....because pretty soon there isn't going to be anything in the Arndale worth going in for.

Would it be missed?
Is it me or was the town busier when that was a large free car park were it stands and weird shaped conveniences for weird shaped locals.

I agree I think the town was busier then. You couldn't find a place to park if you went down town in the afternoon.

Yes, they were all on the car park.

would the Arndale be missed........only by those who own the property...for the rents they would not be getting...Though how it can be profitable to have a building like that with so many empty shops in it, beats me.

It could be a charity shopping centre.
