....or shop online so you don't have to place life and limb at risk from meeting impatient intolerant youths (or badly designed car parks):D

I think the intellectual term you should have used after first being polite enough to quote Tealeafs post would be...

lol
:D

Stick to that and stop annoying the grown ups.

Well I actually think that when somebody reaches the age of 75 they should prove they are still road worthy, a bit like an MOT really, I know my father was still driving right up to when he died at the age of 83, but to be honest he was an accident waiting to happen, I begged him to stop driving, because he was getting dangerous on the roads. I refused to drive with him at the end, think what made my mind up was the first time he took me for an hospital appointment after the new traffic Island had been made at Guide and he went the wrong way round the roundabout, very very scary

Me & my Mum were talking about this the other day, we said it may be a good idea when you get to a certain age that you re-take a test to show that you are still ok to drive.
Not a full driving test but maybe just a safty test in a way.

Saying that though if I took my full driving test now I may fail as we all get into "little habits" that could fail us now in a test.

Well lets face it when your learning at first heth you only learn to pass a test, its when you've actually got the licence that you learn to drive;)

In Italy this happens every time you have to renew your driving license -you have to have a medical visit which tests your hearing and sight (with and without glasses/with or without hearing aids -i wouldn't be allowed to drive without my glasses and it's written on the license) you have to declare any medical conditions you have and also what medication you are on. The time between renewals falls the older you get from every 10 yrs to every 5 yrs over 60 and every 3 yrs over 70.
There is now also a new law which means that any person who applies for their first license has to have a blood test to show they are not recreational drug users.

I have experienced being a car passenger in Italy.
My ex's italian uncles took delight in successfully jumping red lights.
Fitness to drive is not solely dependant on good health, but it helps.

I have to drive on the roads over here in the middle of all the Italians so i know what it's like, even though i can no longer do long distance driving, and I agree.
A little aside, I failed my test twice in the UK (the only exam i've ever failed!) so i have an Italian driving license which was easier to get 20-odd years back. The current test here is damnably hard and I doubt i'd pass it. My eldest son reckons i shouldn't be on the road but I've never had an accident in 23 yrs (touchwood) and he's wrecked 3 cars in 5 years...

That is lack of experience and the feeling most youngsters seem to have, that they are immortal and indestructible.
Which is why I said in an earlier post it is not fair to assume that all drivers above a certain age are incompetent purely on an age basis.

I have had my driving licence since 1980.........surely experience has to count for something.

Usually yes but I think a lot of it depends how often you drive. If your a nip to Asda on a Saturday then dont touch the car till next Saturday then maybe holding a license for 20 years does not mean your a good driver.

As I have got older I have become a calmer and slower driver but I still have lots of bad habits.

My father learnt to drive in the Army, he was a very good drive, but as he got older, he did become dangerous Margaret, one of his main faults was creeping about in first gear, yes first gear, when he used to take me to hospital, he never got out of first gear until he reached New Lane, the engine was screaming, the problem was he was stone deaf and he couldn't hear it. But creeping about at 15 or 20 mile an hour isn't safe it just causes havoc for other road users
