I want all Councillors to log in but i thought it is obvious they will be put off by abusive posts containing inneundo or insults. Stands to reason they aren't interested.

Graham, if they feel that they are being insulted/abused there is a little button which allows them to report a post.
I would think that during their political life they had grown a thick enough skin to cope with insults. I really didn't think our local politicians were so very delicate.

Ahh, I see. Like the observation by a one-time HBC Labour councillor that all Tories were a shower of sh**te. A post he hastily deleted but not before some of us saw it.

Margaret, you have always been a firm but fair poster and I respect your viewpoint. Censorship is the last thing because it indicates a breakdown. I accept though there will always be people who have lost an argument and go personal.

At the St Christophers event the last questioner lambasted (to a huge roar) Peter and Marlene for engaging in slagging others off continually without any intelligent arguments to support their answer.

Graham, you know when you are passionate about something it is very easy to run off at the mouth....but Accyweb seems to be like a family in that respect....you can argue like billy-ho.....and let's face it when families argue it does get personal.......there are many of us on here who, while we get passionate about a subject, we can respect another persons viewpoint.....and I think that most councillors would be able to stand their corner without any difficulty....if they can't, then I would respectfully suggest a change of career direction.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at that event.

Besides this quite pathetic post, which only an idiot would give credence to, I can't recall too many personal 'inneundo or insults' recently, aimed at anyone imparticular, other than ones aimed at Cllr. Britcliffe...in this very thread.

As was pointed out, if rules are broken, and politicans are unfairly attacked, just like every other member, there's a report button, and the moderators can and will deal with the matter.

Being burdened with an excellent memory, I can recall a couple of years ago what could be called 'innuendo and insults' being bandied about. With some members using such tactics against those they saw as their political foes.

Some of those were definitely innuendo strewn insults.

I'm often suprised when others don't quite have the same recall, when it comes to what has happened in the past.

Odd that.

If that was me (and it may have been) it was clearly frustration at the way the Borough was being run down and out of as you say, not very endearing.

Re: I'm going outside now, I may be some time

As I said Graham, when the passion is in full flow....none of us are immune from making rash comments.
It happens, but it only goes to illustrate how dearly our views are held.

Walking out on a discussion, disagreement, argument...what ever you want to call it, is never the right thing to do(unless, that is, the situation is likely to become physical).....it is always better to try and get your point across and come to some sort of compromise or agreement.

I can see that, in this situation, that would hardly have been possible as the views were so far apart.

However, it seems like the economic arguments for the proposal were largely ignored by Councillor Britcliffe....despite the fact that very few non ethnics had used the service that is to be moved....and also that this service would still be available to non ethnics albeit in an ethnic community setting.

I would question whether there would be some mileage in using one of the many empty properties in town for this service........even the market hall has empty places.
Maybe it is something that can still be worked out, without the need for the histrionics displayed at the meeting.

I can remember you once saying on here that all Tory councillors were a waste of space, I think if I remember rightly I asked you to repeat that comment to Cllr Brian Walmsley's face, to my knowledge can't remember you doing that;)

I can't recall that but if you say it did happen then it may have. I believe the town has wasted £100m in the last decade and missed its golden chance. Not because of poor policy decisions but because of a 'corrupt way of doing business'. I am passionate about changing things, the Borough has lost out we cannot put wrongs right, we are we are.

I remember 2002/3 Graham, nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more.
