Some can't, because sadly they aren't able to be there, to do it. Either emotionally, or physically. Doesn't mean their love is any less for their child though. |

Re: What tugs at your heartstrings?
What a contrast from all the fighting talk on other threads, this thread is a very welcome change.
Certain smells take me back to springhill school (a mixture of potato pie, disinfectant and musty books). When I play patience the card game, I can hear my grandmas voice(imaginary, I dont hear voices) telling me which card to move, as she taught me to play as a nipper. |
Re: What tugs at your heartstrings?
Many things to numerous to mention, but that is what makes us what we are. If we never have an emotive response to situations we would cease to be Human & all that entails. We need pain & sorrow for us to appreciate joy & love in whatever forms they take, this seeming conundrum, this dichotomy is all part of our Human condition it's not something we can take or leave it's a part of our existence & despite what we at times may feel we are hopefully the better for it.

Re: What tugs at your heartstrings?
Thought i'd resurrect this thread as it was probably one of the best posted on here in a long time...
When i arrived in Oxford in Oct. 1985 as a Graduate student -one of the first evenings we were invited by one of the second years for a drink and a " get to know each other" chat. We were a mixed bunch from all over the world. We got into a discussion and i remember my room "neighbour" a white South African called Bronek Masojada ended up defending his country as everyone railed against Apartheid -breaking down at the time -he was a progressive and against apartheid totally but in a situation where everyone was talking against his home country he felt duty bound to defend it -even though it went against his principles...he told me later that he had felt personally affected by the comments. I have lived in Europe for half my life - and when I see you all attacking it, it makes me feel exactly the same way even though i feel that i am nothing but British at heart. I will stop here as i can't get any more words out at the moment...may pick up the thread later....sorry. |
Re: What tugs at your heartstrings?
