International Men's Day

Today is International Men's Day.

The idea being that it's the day for raising awareness of issues that are related to men - i.e. health issues, father's who can't see their children, etc. Particularly relevant as it's Movember which is all about raising awareness for Prostate Cancer.

As you may know, I've been involved in International Women's Day for many years and I think it's fantastic that this day for men is growing in importance.

Apparently it's been going since 1999 (I didn't know that) and it's recognised by 50 UN countries around the world.

Presume it's over by now - never make a "thing" of the so-called "women's day" in march either -can't stand these kind of initiatives -sorry!

Am sure the prostates of the world will forgive me...

The ability to sacrifice your needs on behalf of others is fundamental to manhood, as is honour. Manhood rites of passage the world over recognise the importance of sacrifice in the development. Men make sacrifices everyday in their place of work, in their role as husbands and fathers, for their families, for their friends, for their communities and for their nation. International Men's Day is an opportunity for people everywhere of goodwill to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all.

The only one I celebrate personally, is International Bollock's Day, on April 1st.

Sorry, Gayle hunny, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, too.

Speaking as a man, I think I am perfectly qualified to say that, for the vast majority of my sex, this touchy-feely, inclusive drivel has absolutely no relevance or interest to men and the way they live. I am not going to wear a little ribbon, or spend fruitless hours exploring my feelings. Nor do I intend, ever, burning my jock-strap. Spare me the fluffy, pink, gushing feminism, Gayle, and please keep your patronising, busy-bodying nose out of my prostate, the condition of which is a matter between myself and my GP, thank-you.

I celebrated it.

Went down the pub, saw a couple of pole dancers, had a few pints, watched a bit of footy on TV and had a few more pints and a bag of pork scratchings.

It was an evening of high culture for IMD.

I don't think the Gloria Steinem type sisters would particularly describe Gayle as a radical feminist.

Was beginning to worry that the antique soap-box had arrived before Xmas -till I read the last line!

They celebrate that particular day on the 2nd August in Italy for some reason -think the number 2 has something to do with it...:D

Oh I don't know, Jay. Did you ever see her in the ITV series "Nice Time" with Kenny Everett? I think hot pants and a fright wig were involved...the memory is dimming.

She also posed nude for Oz magazine.

Though not their kiddy porn issue.
