Re: Oaklea Pub

I'm on the Planning committe and we passed this earlier on in the year. It was with some regret I have to say, it's never nice when a pub shuts down, especially one as good as the Oaklea, but times are a-changing.

The planning application was very impressive, however.

Wasn't renewed, Cashy, completely new one.

Then typical; woman, telling porkies to the manager.:D

Hope you don't mind me posting this but I have just been informed by management that the Oaklea has closed for good. :(

Would like to thank everyone for supporting the quiz over the years and to say that I am currently in the process of finding a new venue for Tuesdays........

Monday at the Crown continues as normal..................

Best Wishes to all Quizzers......

I'm afraid the above post is correct, my son is one of the bar staff at the Oaklea & they have been told the news tonight - might have been an idea Syd to find out if the staff knew before publicly declaring the news - after all, these are people's jobs we are talking about - feel so sorry for Kate & Jay, good luck to the both of you if you read this

Noticed it was closed on my way past today. Does this mean it is being tuned into apartments after all

As some people will have heard by now, it is true that the Oaklea Tavern permanently closed it doors yesterday. The decision to do this came completely out of the blue & without warning.

The building currently being pulled to pieces from the inside out ready for it to be turn into flats.

Kate & myself would like to say a huge thank you to all of you that have supported us over the past 6 years. Not least to all our staff, without them we wouldn't have lasted 6 minutes, let alone 6 years.

We have met so many new friends & we wish we could thank you all personally.

We wish you all the best for the future & hopefully we will see you again soon.

Fingers crossed that everybody finds new jobs quickly and a massive thanks to all quizzers for their phone calls and messages of support.

The quiz will transfer to Sydney Street WMC from the 29th January starting at the usual 9.00 pm. The format will be the same but there will be an entrance fee of £1.

End of an era, sadly, but hopefully the dawn of a new one........
