Same Sex Marriages.

What was Cameron thinking about when he 'came out' in favour of same sex marriages following the condemnation of same by a senior Scottish clergyman? If there is one thing guaranteed to lose the conservative party votes come the next general election, then surely, this has to be it.
Be interesting to see subscribers views on the subject.

In theory, if people are daft enough, and want to, I think marriage should be available to all, regardless of the gender of the person that you want to carry over the threshold.

However, I also agree that similarly everyone should therefore be able to enter into a civil partnership, if we are to have them.

Equality should apply to all.

Regardless.

As civil partnerships currently give the same legal status as marriage, I really don't see why this is a pressing issue for Cameron.

I disagree that it's a vote loser, most people nowadays don't give a stuff, it just seems a battle the Prime Minister doesn't really need to fight right now.

I think the poll options could have been worded better.

Should have been kept to two.

Agree/disagree.

Live and let live, and stick to civil partnerships, simply confuses the question, as to whether marriage should be available to everyone.

I was with you all the way until the above, I think you will find that only 95% don't give a stuff.

You are probably right re the poll options, but I was just canvassing opinion to see if society really has changed as much as the media would lead us to believe.

I think we've come a long way in the last 60 years, after all people were jailed for being homosexual in the fifties, until somebody saw a bit of sense and said hey hang on a minute here, we're jailing people for something they have no control over, as I've said before its not a lifestyle choice. To me if gays want to get hitched, carry on its live and let live

wooooaaaahhhhh mods please can you delete my vote, i voted agree cos i didn't see the 'step too far' bit

i think same sex marriages SHOULD be able to go ahead, a couple no matter of which gender should be allowed to be happy as a married couple

Yes, but it makes it harder to work out any results.

The way you've done it, you have one option for those who don't agree with same sex marriage, and three voting options for those who aren't necessarily opposed to it.

When we've had similar polls in the past, the results were that the majority of people on here don't give two hoots what other people do in bed, or with whom.

I agree hun.

The wording doesn't make it clear.

Do you agree with same sex marriage?

Yes.

No.

Unsure.

That's all it needs.

Men were jailed in the eighties, when they were in consensual relationships, and one of them was nineteen, and the other happened to be twenty one.

The nineteen year old was considered a minor.

Even though he could have married a woman, without parental consent.
