I have known David for over 30 years, having lived on the same street as him for the majority of my life.

If anyone does know David, then they will know that he is well over 80, and has been very ill/housebound recently. Although I cannot comment or condone his letter inviting people to come and see his collection of historic fag packets, nor will I agree with his numerous letters to the local rags, his viewpoint is seldom far from opinionated and usually Dickensian, and usually not one I would personally share.

But have a heart people, this elderly gent has never even heard of Accyweb, let alone turned on a computer. It was only recently that he was given his first television.

Up until his accident, he still took 3-4 paper rounds daily for the local newsagents and also sorted all the papers into bags for the proprietors, I add to this that he did it for free.

Now, David is what you can class as eccentric, opinionated and sometimes outspoken, but he is a true gentleman, and subsequently, as I know the person and not just the name, something must have happened that we do not know for this situation to have occurred. He would not do it as a prank, having lost his funny bone years ago.

The only way David can voice his views is through the local press. Like it, love it or loathe it, it really is his only outlet.

He may be a Pratt, but only in name, certainly not in his nature.

Fair enough, thought he might have had a letter in this weeks edition with an explanation, but if he has been ill that might explain it a little. But it doesn't explain the fact that the room at the library hadn't even been booked for the exhibition. Hope he gets well soon, we have quite a few Accrington eccentric's and some of them appear on Accy Web quite often !!

The trouble with writing to the local press is you do stick your head above the parapet and thus expect to get shot at. Very few people who read the Obs, will know Mr Pratt or his circumstances, I only realise he must be getting on in years because he's been writing to the press for years.

I don't even know if David Pratt has got a fridge or freezer yet. He always buys fresh every day from Accrington. He is always one of the firsts to give to any local charity.

I would guess that he is saying the he aint got a fridge so he isn't going to know about computers, he shops locally so supports local business and is a generous man as he donates to charity.

And there's you lot calling him.:D

I don't know Cashman what did he do exactly that's so bad?

As for Jimmy, well I think the accusations are a bit more that writing to the observer, or not showing up for a meeting.

Re: April Fools or What

Well the Pratt is obviously alive & well if he's planning on being in Blackburn Friday. I still havent had a call back off the Observer, so I will ring them again Monday. Especially with this being in the telegraph an explanation is due.

Re: April Fools or What

Well just thought I'd see if Mr Pratt is in the phone book & he is. I have just spoken with him, he said he was in Local Studies at Accy Library on the day & time in question. But he hadn't let the staff downstairs know he was there, so when people asked of course they didn't know what people were on about. I asked if anyone had actually found him up there & he said they had, said he will take half the blame as what was in the Observer was correct, but he should have let the staff downstairs in the library know. Also said he will be back again in Accy with his display as people missed out. So problem solved - Holmes by name Holmes by nature, thanks to my great, great Uncle Sherlock for the investigatory powers!
