They are probably Tawnies!

One of these peregrine chicks isn't getting fed enough apparently!

I watched a feeding this morning and on two other days. One chick never got fed anytime I watched.

What will happen if it dies? Will it get thrown out by the adults?

It might get nibbled! - in the ideal world they could take it out and hand rear it, but it wouldn't be put back into the nest after that it would be rejected.

Won't it just get eaten by the others? After all birds are their diet. Best form of recycling!

ospreywatch - YouTube

Also visited the Lake District Bird of Prey Center on the Lowther Castle estate for a display of falconry -really interesting and impressive flying especially by the Gyr falcons.

Never realised that many birds of prey on the south coast were deliberately killed during WW1 and 2 as they hunted and killed carrier pigeons which were important means of communication back then (the falconer mentioned this during the display!)

What sort of Birds of prey do you have in Italy then? Spain has a lot of eagles and vultures. I havn't seen the Osprey's in the Lake District yet. There was a pair of Golden Eagles in Haweswater area saw one there. But one of them died and there has only been one present since 2006!

Haweswater

Gyr Falcons are cool, very cool they live in cold areas like Greenland! ;)

I think they used to kill all types of birds of prey at one time, Peregrines were not only killed on the coast but all over the place for killing grouse also poisons on the land effected them badly.

I think there all getting fed now, notice how they all push together now because they can't stand up straight yet, so they push against each other to stay upright.

Yep the runt is holding its own. Someone said it must be a female as it's so noisy and pushy.

In the Picos de Europa of Northern Spain we saw large birds of prey feeding on deer carcases that had been left out for them - by whom, I don't know. Not easy to say if they were eagles or vultures, quite a long way off and not that knowledgeable but it was an amazing sight.

I can only say what i've seen here -on our farm there is a Kestrel (bigger than the british version) kills off the pigeons. We have a lot of owls nesting too in some disused towers -think the are Little Owls -they are very small and sometimes a couple dive-bomb my cats in the evening if they're out in the veg. garden behind the house.

This area is full of herons (it's the Provincial symbol), wild ducks and Moorhens -not birds of prey but still nice to see. Personally i'm a Swallow watcher -love 'em and we have quite a few nesting. They were back late this year - I went on holiday on March 26th and they hadn't come back.

Went to mum's in Tenerife and there they have Kestrels hunting in the Baranco and fantastic huge white owls that make a really weird cry at night and come swooping low over the roof terrace -they are the symbol of the island, amazing to see. Sometimes at mum's we see some of the Eagles from the Jungle Park too which is on a nearby mountain. Been to the display there which is really worth seeing, had a Golden Eagle fly to my hand -pretty scary!
