I can only say what i've seen here -on our farm there is a Kestrel (bigger than the british version) kills off the pigeons. We have a lot of owls nesting too in some disused towers -think the are Little Owls -they are very small and sometimes a couple dive-bomb my cats in the evening if they're out in the veg. garden behind the house.

This area is full of herons (it's the Provincial symbol), wild ducks and Moorhens -not birds of prey but still nice to see. Personally i'm a Swallow watcher -love 'em and we have quite a few nesting. They were back late this year - I went on holiday on March 26th and they hadn't come back.

Went to mum's in Tenerife and there they have Kestrels hunting in the Baranco and fantastic huge white owls that make a really weird cry at night and come swooping low over the roof terrace -they are the symbol of the island, amazing to see. Sometimes at mum's we see some of the Eagles from the Jungle Park too which is on a nearby mountain. Been to the display there which is really worth seeing, had a Golden Eagle fly to my hand -pretty scary!

Once saw a Kingfisher on the Calder as a girl when out walking on a sunday with my dad -fantastic sight. Saw one on our canal here a cuple of years ago -haven't seen it since though, pity...

Oystercatchers used to breed down the Calder near Altham, don't know if they still do? Also was a Sand Martin colony. The Calder has been cleaned up now a lot more than it was in 80's so probably more Kingfishers there.

Kingfishers,are more common in the area now.This is definitely down

The Chichester cathedral nest appears to have a smallish roof but the Nottingham Trent University one has no roof at all and there is only one chick left now after the bad weather of a couple of weeks ago when the brooding parent got absolutely drenched while sitting. Very sad but the remaining chick is doing well.

This falcon watching is quite addictive!
