Maybe it was before she did home visits for the parole board and spouted her crazy opinions on their behalf. ( I speak from personal experience regarding a family member, and she didn't have such a charitable outlook then!)

my mate had her as his probation officer when he was younger and he says she was quite the push over if you had a half decent sob story.Maybe she mellowed later in life

mind you this was about 25 years ago

There is an article here about Doroty's background,
Crisis management | Society | The Guardian
Makes quite interesting reading.
However, I do agree that she is facilitating the needs of druggies and alcys by dishing out hard cash.

Accyman has a letter in the Accrington Observer...it is apt and truthful, but I am sure that next week there will be a load of letters supporting the work of MG......from the lily livered soft touch do gooders.
Well said Accyman. Karma left on another thread. I am sure that you said what many people actually think, but are reluctant to say.

A quote from that Guardian article-
"Now, one in three people in Accrington is involved with drugs."

That seems a wild exaggeration
...maybe she meant that one in three of the people whom she supplies are.

Re: Worse than The Depression - says Maundy founder.

Maybe she has not clarified what she means because it serves her cause better not to clarify.
The kind of support she offers is not helpful to those who have dependency issues.
These people need to be taught and encouraged to stand on their own two feet.
Many of their problems are of their own making.
I used to donate to the cause, but I no longer do so.

I once heard a young woman, who had just come out of the Muandy Grange place(near what used to be Philip Pratts) saying 'She expects us to eat this shi-ite'
The woman had been give an M&S Pastrami sandwich.......she had taken it, despite it not being to her taste and was seen, a little bit further down the street tossing into a bin...ungrateful wretch. That is when I decided that I would no longer support MG.

Re: Worse than The Depression - says Maundy founder.

Sorry about that Accyman..there is a letter which is signed Accyman and I thought it was you.
Anyway, who ever it was who wrote it, has hit the nail right on the head and not in an inflammatory way.
Apologies Accyman for confusing you with the other person who wrote the letter.
They do reflect much of what you have said in posts on here....so you can perhaps see why I thought it was you.

I tried to find a link to it but I'm not sure if they have the letters in the online Observer.....if they have, I couldn't find them.

Margaret it was in the Guardian, and people actually call the Daily Mail

I think you were kind calling her a wretch Margaret. When Maundy started out at first the late Ken Hargreaves sacked me if I would make a monthly donation to them, £2 I think it was, this was around 1998, I paid it for a while until I heard the stories about what was happening and cancelled my donation, must have been about 2001, people need to open their eyes, as I've said before I hadn't realised how bad it had become until I saw it for myself last summer, this is one of the reasons that Accy is worse than other town centres, Abbey st is like a no go area, and its spreading, fast
