Excuse me, young Kenny tried his best, and devoted a lot of his time to it, but I still hold that title.

Slightly off topic but are any of the electrical goods on offer tested for safety?I doubt it and as such ,will it not be against the law to pass them on to others?

I don't imagine my telly had been tested, it was broken and had been outside for a couple of days!

It would have had to have been Anne, even these shops have to comply with the law and are liable for any damage

Yes, they probably thought it was worse than the one they had in the Great Depression.

:rolleyes::D

I still think it was a totally crass, and stupid thing for Dorothy McGregor to say, that people are worse off today, than in the depression of the twenties/thirties.

She should perhaps read one of William Woodruff's books, about living in poverty locally, in those times.

Tributes - William Woodruff

Or if she's too busy to read a book, playing Lady Bountiful, there's an interesting article in this paper, which talks about the hardships many in Lancashire suffered in the Depression.

In search of Arcadia: In the Hungry 1930s mothers starved to death to feed their children | Mail Online

Still waiting to hear just how many drug addicts there were in Accrington in the thirties.

I'm guessing not many.

No work = no food.

No welfare state handouts to fund a habit, in those times.

Another bit of good news for Accrington Town Centre, Blackburn are to make it free parking on council car parks to try end entice more shoppers, another excuse to stick two fingers up the Accy

Dorothy isn't an ex-nun, she is in fact, 'a nun without an order'. I believe she was ordained many years ago by the bishop of Blackburn.

Would that be before or after she was a Social Worker?

I found it interesting to read, in one of the many interviews she's given, as well as talking about her life as a nun, she also spoke about doing a modelling course.

Clarified a lot.

Spotlight.

By the way, I've nothing against the woman personally.

I've only met her once, and I found her to be a very nice person.

However, as well as spouting such stupid things about poverty being worse now than in the thirties, I genuinely believe her approach hinders, rather than help, those people fighting addiction.
