Don't say that or we will have to say Ossy is part of Accy and it's not. They are all part of Hyndburn.
The good thing about being part of Hyndburn is no one knows where it is, if we were in Accrington and District everyone would think us Ossy folk were Accy chavs.

it always tickled me how they sold those houses where rist wires used to be as oswaldtwistle so they could bung a few extra grand on the price. When i worked at rist wires it was an accrington address with no mention of oswaldtwistle anywhere lol

unless of course the clocking in machine was in accrington and the toilets were in ossy lol

Accrington was probably ok when it was built.

Is that on the left as you go up Moscow Mill Street? As you go up there when does it become Spring Hill?

I think he is talking of the houses off pickup street. As I grew up there I was told that the boundary is a stream that runs under Spring hill road/moscow mill half way along a block of terrace houses, the street numbers actually change half way down the block so you have some that are Moscow Mill Street and some that are Spring Hill road(My Citizen paper round included SHR but not MMS and the people in the few MMS houses used to winge that I didn't post them a paper as they didn't get one as part of MMS, if I had any spare I'd shove one through for them as I'm nice like that ;) ) . When they built the houses the stream was I believe buried in a pipe to emerge somewhere down near Newark street so technically some of the houses are Accy and some Ossy.

I seem to remember that when I went to St Marys School, I know the streem did form part of the border

The Barratt houses on the old Rist Wires' site (Abbeydale Way, etc.) are entirely in Accrington. I remember when they were built I was still doing Local Land Charges at Hyndburn BC. The developer's solicitor sent me a plan of the site and labelled it Oswaldtwistle. I remember writing back and saying the site was in Accrington. I've just called a map up on LCC MARIO and the water course mentioned passes through the adjoining development. That estate is much more problematic. The boundaries of Accrington, Church and Oswaldtwistle all met in the middle of the reservoir that used to be there. However, because the site entrance is off Moscow Mill Street, Oswaldtwistle and the estate is contained within the St. Andrew's Oswaldtwistle electoral ward they have always been treated as Ossy. Some of the houses on Apple Tree Way etc. could potentially be in two townships or even three! Similarly the estate facing the former Queen's Bingo near Church traffic lights was also a reservoir site. The boundary between Accrington and Church went down the middle. However, the properties all have postal address Accrington. They are however in the Church electoral ward, along with all the other properties at the Antley end of Accrington. Make sense of all that!

The question of boundary changes for election purposes has always been a hot potato, think the worst one was adding the wards from Rossendale onto Hyndburn, I could have understood it more if both wards had bordered Hyndburn but they didn't, plus the tinkering with wards for local elections, suddenly half of New Lane jumped from Immanuel to St Oswald's and for county a section of Immanuel has crossed the boundary into Sping Hill, glad I got out years ago:D

Greenfield doesn't come anywhere near Hyndburn, it would have made more sense if Helmshore had been added, which does have borders with Hyndburn
