I worked with Dr Prout...she was a house officer on my ward....more years ago than I care to remember.
I take Ma to this practice and she always remembers me and has a chat with me.

The management of the practice could be better.

Some people do need looking after Margaret, its a facet of a caring society warts and all.

So its your fault, chatting to the Doctors and making the queues long :p

The Doctors have a Practice Manager to look after the management issues........but I think the Senior partners must have a say in what goes on, but then one of the senior partners has been off ill for a couple of months and another one is frequently away at Uni in Manchester lecturing......so not available for treating sick people.

No, Neil the chatting takes place while Ma disrobes for her examination...have to distract the doctor from looking at her moth eaten vest....:D

Not at the expense of those who are sick right now.
My husband went to Pals with a dodgy knee.....his appointment was at 11.50, he didn't get in to see the doctor until 12.50. What kind of half assed appointment system is that then?

And it isn't about caring, it is about money....practices are paid for their preventative medicine.

I agree about the practice managers but if they are not doing their jobs properly its the Doctors fault.

It's all about balancing the resources Margaret.... accepted that they are not being managed properly.
Maybe Mr P's knee was shunted down the queue to allow them treat a sick person?

Better off going to Africa if you have a bad knee, that is after all where the knee grows.

Perhaps you are right, but then if that is the case why bother having an appointment system...just treat people in queue order...like they do at Tesco's.

Maybe they don't care, while the money keeps rolling in.
Maybe they don't see the bigger picture. Maybe they haven't any management skills themselves to be able to see when someone isn't doing a good job...maybe it is just too much trouble.

There is no continuity of care at the practice....they rely on computer records and if the records have been badly put together then mistakes happen.Early this week the computers were down, and they were running around like headless chickens.

Maybe they have all worked for the NHS for too long so think that making people wait for hours is acceptable.

A few years ago I went for an MRI. Got there on time first appointment of the day at 9am and was told I would have to wait for either 15 or 30 minutes while the machine warmed up.

Why was the first appointment not 9.15 when the machine was ready or why don't the staff start at 8.45am and switch it on. Just typical NHS poor management we all expect.
