That might be suitable for some people, but not for everyone.

Re: Yorkshire Bank in Accrington to Close

Just been informed that Yorkshire bank is closing because the management asked the council, (who own the building), for a ten year lease but this was refused, I was told, rightly or wrongly that St James Street and Broadway will be reopened to bus traffic as a new measure once the bus station is built.

New measure ! in the 60s I used to catch the Huncoat bus outside the library and it travelled down St JamesStreet and along Broadway and then up either Burnley Road or Avenue Parade.

So much for the signs around the borough that state, HYNDBURN AN EXELLENT COUNCIL, (Who say's).

Never mind, stay happy in adversity, your's as ever Taddy

Got my letter today from Yorkshire Bank saying sorry to lose me.

Yes, I was told the same Taddy.
It seems like the council actually WANT to see the demise of this town.and it is true that the street is being opened to traffic and that is why the stone sculpture at the bottom of the street has been moved to a new spot near the bottom of St James Church.

If thats the reason its closing, its bloody disgraceful, :( like the way they implemented this Bus Station.anyone voting for this council should be put in the stocks.

I would be careful who tells you what just before an election. Who is saying HBC own the Yorkshire Bank building?

Surely no-one would tell porkies just to win an election?
Good god sir!
We are British,

Vitai Lampada
("They Pass On The Torch of Life")

There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night --
Ten to make and the match to win --
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat,
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his Captain's hand on his shoulder smote --
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'

The sand of the desert is sodden red, --
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; --
The Gatling's jammed and the Colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of a schoolboy rallies the ranks:
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'

This is the word that year by year,
While in her place the School is set,
Every one of her sons must hear,
And none that hears it dare forget.
This they all with a joyful mind
Bear through life like a torch in flame,
And falling fling to the host behind --
'Play up! play up! and play the game!'

Sir Henry Newbolt (1862-1938)

And other such patriotic bullshine to make us believe it could never happen here!

No never, just not British. Some people appear to save stories for months until it's the right time to get them in the papers, strange that

That still doesn't make it true, employees of allsorts are fed misinformation by managers and higher just to cover their backs.

I know that it doesn't make it true, but I was just saying where my bit of information came from. I didn't say it was true...I just said what I had been told.(pretty much the same as another member of the forum)
But even if this was misinformation, it did not come from a local politician who has mileage to make by talking down the current leading party.
It doesn't ring true that those at the bank would want to get embroiled in the day to day feudings of local politics.
