Quoting out of context, maybe you are one of our councillors

Neil, are you being critical of our councillors? Were you referring to any particular councillor?
You know they have a difficult job and work tirelessly on our behalf(allegedly).

I criticise them when I feel it's due but many of them work hard for Hyndburn. Many put a lot of hours in and help residents at all times of the day. Their details including home address, phone numbers and many mobile numbers are on HBC's website. If you class their expenses as pay the hourly rate is often under minimum wage for the good busy ones

Nope..hanging you by your own petard..

Anyhoo..bringing out the old chestnut about people not being aware of what it takes to be a good councillor is disingenuous to the intelligence of posters on this message board.....the problem is that there is currently a surfeit of bad councillors in power in Hyndburn

Neil, it is what they choose to do. no-one forces them to put themselves up for election.
If you are going to serve your community then you research what the job entails before you seek election and if you don't them more fool you.

If they feel that they are not getting a fair deal in regards to expenses then they have the option of quitting and not seeking re-election.
Some people are just not up the job.

Hmm....

http://www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/downloa...ances_1516.pdf

http://council.lancashire.gov.uk/doc...20payments.pdf

Take, for example, ol' sleepyhead Dawson..he was paid around 20k, which my shaky maths shows that he would need to provide roughly 8 hours a day, 7 days a week for a full 52 weeks at the then minimum wage of £6.95 an hour

Oh and a little further digging... (check out 'item 4 cost comparisons')

http://www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/downloa...e_Appendix.pdf

Overpaid or what???

Thing is..expenses and allowances were meant to allow 'ordinary people' to stand for council without having significant hardship by losing money from wages (kinda like when you are called up for jury service)..but it's been totally bastardised (by council vote) and if you can get on enough committees, you can sit at home and comment on daytime TV like this former councillor did...

Labour's Stoke candidate apologises to wife and daughter for describing women as 'polished turds'

So...please stop with the altruism crud!

Yup...was thinking the same, especially after reading some of your facebook stuff, btw have you had a few because you are barely comprehensible?

People like Britcliffe are waiting for some accolade for doing jack, Marg P should get recognition for 30 years of working in the NHS, that's dedication to the community

I got my recognition Odders. I enjoyed every minute of my career. Many babies were born who would not have been had it not been for the work of my colleagues.
That is all the recognition I need. I still get ladies calling out to me 'Sr. P'....then they show me their grandchildren. A richer reward I cannot ask for(and they paid me to do it).

Hopefully they are still paying you your pension now

Of course they are Neil. One which I earned...(I worked damned hard)and which I believe I deserve.
Many times I worked when all my neighbours were partying...I missed family celebrations because the hours had to be covered. Yes, I knew exactly what the job entailed when I took it on.
I do not expect a medal or any public accolades. It was the job.

If I could give a youngster any piece of advice it would be ' find something you enjoy doing and see if you can get someone to pay you for it'.

I agree, he likes his face in the papers, so does Jones, Moss and and the rest of the Harwood mafia. I also agree that when he was leader of the council he screwed up big time and has an ego and arrogance so massive that he once posted here as 'leader of the council'

But...

I've seen him speak at a couple of county council meetings, and he is quite the orator. He usually talks sense and is very protective of Hyndburn. He spoke against the cuts to the libraries and bus services that the incumbent Labour county council passed despite being offered an alternative from the tories.

Think I prefer an egocentric gobs...e to an ol' sleepyhead who just says 'aye' every now and again to represent me..even if he is a tory

Re: Britcliffe is at it again...

I don't care for political parties. We should have people representing us who have nothing to gain other than the recognition for doing what they should to help the borough. Not because they think they are a saviour.
