Dorothy Duxbury B.E.M.
I have said in the past that Accyweb feels like my family....so it is with great sadness that I have to tell you that Dorothy(my Mum) an amazing and well loved lady died on The 5th of February.
Mum was Caretaker of Woodnook St Mary's in Belfield Road, so many of those who went to that school will know her. I know that many of you who read my blogs will have read of our adventures and escapades...so may feel some connection Mum specified before she died that there was to be no obituary in the local press...she promised she would haunt me if I did not follow her wishes. I am hoping that Accyweb does not count. Mum was a feisty, independent lady of indomitable spirit. I have done my best to keep her going for as long as possible, but life had just become so wearisome, she was so tired and there was little in life that gave her joy in those last couple of weeks. So she put her earthly burden down and left us. Even in death she thought of others....she left her earthly overcoat to be unpicked by medical students...her lining to be investigated so that others may learn. It made me smile(just a little) to find out last Thursday that Mum, at the age of 90 had got a place at Liverpool University in the medical faculty. Mum,you were bloody amazing...and if I can be one tenth as good as you have been I will be happy. Night night, God Bless. |

I am so sorry to hear about your amazing mum. It is wonderful that you had her for so many years and I know you will feel lost without her. She sounds like a real inspiration and so selfless leaving her remains to science. You must take great pride in knowing she is helping others even now. I send my deepest condolences to you and your family. x

Re: Dorothy Duxbury B.E.M.
I've never met Margaret Pilky or her mum, but I suspect that M.P is a pea out of the same pod as D.D.

Re: Dorothy Duxbury B.E.M.
Thank you all for your kind words...they mean so much to me.
Steve, B.E.M is the British Empire Medal...and it was presented to her in 1992 for services to education....unfortunately it was the same year she lost my Dad....he knew she had been awarded it, but did not live to see her presented with it. I miss her like crazy. |
Re: Dorothy Duxbury B.E.M.
