I loved history at school and had a fantastic teacher, Bill Green. He was strict but fair and you could also have a laugh with him. He gave me a love of history and incentive to study and I am thankful for that. RE was taught by Mr Mc Caffrey and Mr Webb. I did quite well in RE but was never really that interested in the finer details of it. I think that both subjects are valuable to todays children. How can anyone know where they're going if they don't know where they've been..:D

Mr Green always seemed big but in reality isn't a tall person about 5ft 6 or 7. He had a huge personality and booming voice when needed. One of the strictest teachers I came accross was Mrs Skull (RIP) she used to terrify the hell out of most of the 5th year boys all 4ft 11ins of her. If I remember rightly she taught Physics, she retired when I was at the end of the first year about 1980 and died a few years later. I wonder what some of these retired teachers would make of todays rabble. We had a few trouble makers at Moorhead whose names were regularly read out in assembly for detention or caning. At least they were proper trouble makers though, not like all these kids today pretending to have ADHD when there's nothing wrong with them that a bit of parental discipline wouldn't cure.

Mr Ormerod RIP was another fair but strict teacher and Mr. Walmsley with his glare. Remember reading Cider with Rosie in his class and everyone got a fit of giggles at the rude bits. He hit the ceiling before he came back down again!!

The best book I ever read at school was OF MICE AND MEN (john.STEINBECK) fantastic.....
then I watched the film and it was a flop, but usually the case.

I enjoyed I'm the King of the Castle (can't remember the author).

I used to spend quite a few lunchtimes in the Library, reading. Mainly Willard Price (Hal & Roger Hunt). I used to also enjoy the Hardy Boys, but there weren't any of them in the Library.
